57classic Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Ladies and gentleman I present to you for your listening pleasure a performance from 1988 with Jack Bruce playing piano/vocals in England on the Howard Stern show and Leslie West via telephone playing from his home on Long Island, NY. Wishing Leslie the best as he recovers from a life saving leg amputation.
Bassilisk Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 How cool is that. Leslie (and Mountain) have always been one of my favorite bands and when they broke and West, Bruce and Laing came out I had to have it. Not a bad album, some gratuitous wanking, but a couple of good cuts (Why Dontcha, The Doctor). Jack was, of course, one of the Holy Trinity for me as a bass player (the others being Paul McCartney and John Entwistle). Last year I saw (a version of) Mountain with Jack's son Malcolm on bass. He sang Politician and it was absolutely spooky how much he sounded like his Dad. Unfortunately the rest of the show was overwhelmingly loud. I mean, I know I have some damage from all those years of too much amp and can take some dB's, but this was way over the top - painful actually. I think Leslie felt he had to make up any shortcomings with volume. It was really too bad because it wasn't necessary - I though he played well enough, certainly well enough for the crowd that came to see him (they were top billing). We left early. P.S. Opener was Edgar Winter with 3 young guys in his band - they kicked major *** without blowing your brains out.
LarryUK Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I saw a good local band recently and the volume was painful. Plus when I saw Journey/Foreigner last year it was the same.
