Anybody have something like this happen?

So today while playing my Gibson songwriter deluxe studio ec I was told by multiple people that "Gibson is almost as good as Taylor". I was like, WTF!? When I tried telling them that Taylor and Gibson both have their pros and cons (not many cons for Gibson :) ) but I prefer Gibson I was told that "it's my guitar, of course I'm going to be partial to Gibson". I have nothing against Taylor and I could understand if this was coming from someone who owned a Taylor or even someone who just played something half way decent but this was coming from people who play $150 guitars and barely have any experience with guitars, especially nice guitars. I just find it aggravating when I've been waiting a long time for a guitar like this and then people go and tell me how it's sub-par. And their ignorance of what a quality instrument actually is is also really annoying. Anyways, just plain annoying.

So has something similar happened to any of you?

"God is great. Beer is good. People are crazy..........Don't be mad at them. Have pity on them.

Really!! If this happened to me, I'd tell 'em, "The reason this is my guitar is because I'm partial to Gibson." The hard part is trying not to be smug when you dismiss their naivete. If you are happy with what you have, be sympathetic towards them, for they have not what you have.

Ya you guys are right. Like you said, I'm happy with it and that's what matters :)

I guess what they say is true, if you ain't been hated on, you obviously ain't got nothin.

Well if it happened to me I'd run right home, get on the computer, go to a guitar forum and ask other guitar players if this ever happened to them..............oh wait.......never mind.

I expect the guitar snobs at my school to make fun of my rat Strat.

Let 'em make fun. Just make sure you sound better than they do. And then point that out to them!

I never listen to what other people say. Both are fine guitars. For me I like Taylor's Expression System but I like the acoustic sound of the Gibson. In the end I decided to go with Taylor. There is no right or wrong answer. It's what you like. Just ignore them...

I'm also known as "that insane, loud, guy" I play during lunch at school with a friend of mine.

Actually I went and got Chinese food, then went home and posted this. Guitar forums are great for when you're bored :)

people are idiots

My opinion on high end guitars is that after you are paying over $1000 for an instrument, it becomes less and less about quality and more about preferences.

What I find really annoying is how my job involves convincing people who know nothing about computers about the real reason they can't get online. I can show them all the proof they should need (example- you have 5 computers, only 1 of 5 is not getting online, obviously the problem is the computer and not the internet connection) and they will still try to tell me I'm wrong. [blink] Even more annoying is when the best explanation they can give me about why it can't be their computer is "because it worked fine yesterday". My response to that lately has been to stop trying to explain why it's their computer and simply state "It doesn't work now and that's all that matters".

Just ignore them.

I had a Gibson freak tell my partner her Parker was a piece of junk because it wasn't a Gibson. Personally, I like my Parker better than my Gibson, but I would never tell anyone it is better - it's just better for me.

Some people say their Fords are better than Chevrolets, Heinz Ketchup better than Hunts, Cubase better than Cakewalk, Canon better than Nikon, Mac better than Windows, Foxfire better than Chrome, iOS better than Android, etc,. and vice versa.

Everybody has an opinion based on their own experience. But everyone is different.

It's their opinion, and yours is just as valid. What's better for one isn't necessarily better for the next.

Letting comments like that bother you is letting their comments control your emotions. Once you realize that, it becomes easier to consider it simply their opinion and take that for what it's worth.
