BigKahune Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 . The national tour show is playing nearby Jan 10-15 - I'm thinking about seeing it. My local paper had a cool publicity photo with some Gibbies in the shot so I checked the website out and found a similar shot to link here. Notice all the Gibbies. And another -
livemusic Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Wow, that bottom photo sure look like Elvis! Gibson must have a contract with them.
Clayfingers Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Trainspotter alert: This was 1956, two years before the ES-335 was introduced - like Chuck Berry playing a 335 in the first Back to the Future. But, nice j200s. I saw Jersey Boys, nice collection of tele's and esquires in that one too.
MissouriPicker Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Great pics. Saw Carl Perkins once, back around 1985-86, at The Uptown Theater in Kansas City. Perfect kind of venue for seeing "the greats." My wife and I were barely ten-feet from the stage. Old Carl was quite a guitar picker...........BTW, if I remember correctly, I read that Cash's future drummer and long-time friend, Fluke Holland, was also at Sun Records that day and was playing drums with Perkins' band at the time. He had followed Perkins over to Sun that morning, the others showed-up and things went from there. Less than a year later, Holland joined Cash's Tennessee Two and the rest was history.
Daryl M Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Just think about the amazing blues and rockabilly artists that were wandering in and out of Sun Studios in Memphis back in the early 1950's. What a cool time and place that would have been to hang out.
TommyK Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Just so I'm clear, this is not a vintage photo of the original 'Million Dollar Quartet', but rather a present day group touring AS the 'Million Dollar Quarter', i.e. a tribute tour. Right? If so, these guys have the 'look'.
j45nick Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 . Yes Tommy - you got it. . . There's a certain irony to that one, with EP on keyboard and JL just singing! "Goodness, gracious, great balls o' fire!"
