Oscar sweden 0 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Hi, im thinking about buying a gibson sg, and a guy sells one, he claims its from year 2000 but the guitar has just 6 serial numbers 000591 wich year is the guitar from, i don't have any pictures now...
anaconda Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 best thging to do is call gibson they could tell you. if its real or fake
Oscar sweden 0 Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 here are the only pictures i have so far...
Steve Reed Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Guitar Dater Project comes up with this result for that serial number. Guitar Info Your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant, USA approximately in: 1967 Guitar Dater Project Sounds very strange, I'd tread carefully.
Oscar sweden 0 Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 that's the thing, i don't really trust that, but if it is from 1967 that would be really nice...
Steve Reed Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 as I mentioned in another thread that guitar dater is not correct all the time. Contact Gibson Customer Service for correct information either email or call them. Your probably right, didn't see your previous posting - but have now. Certainly had me scratching my head that result.
BigKahune Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 . Guitar Dater is a good tool, but it only automates the decoding of the serial number. People make up serials that fit the formula for fakes and Guitar Dater can't verify the serial is in the Gibson data base, it can only decode the serial. Also, real serials get stolen and put on fake guitars all the time. You need to verify if the serial matches the description of the guitar (color, model, finish, hardware). As Guitarest commented - email Gibson - service@gibson.com with the serial and a couple pics (2mb limit) and they'll verify weather the serial matches the guitar and whether it's legit.
Oscar sweden 0 Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 I've sent a email now, Somebody wanna guess which year the guitar is from until i get the answera from gibson?
RRIDER Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 It doesn't appear to have Made in USA under the serial number. If I recall correctly that started in 1970. It might be from the 60's.
Lungimsam Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Those bevels are definitely '60's type bevels. That is one nice looking SG. I hope it is real for you.
GibSinCity Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Everything SG says: SG Special w/P90's "Mfd: 1961-1971" So, maybe a 1970 model? There's some pics. at the bottom that show a red one with bound fretboard. http://everythingsg.com/index.php/special-w-p90s-.html Here's one from a "SG Special with p90s" Google image search.
BigKahune Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 . A six digit serial starting with three zeros should be a 1967 or 1973 - - - but he seller says it's a 2000, that's odd. There were some reissues in the 2000s that use six digit serial numbers. Can you read the pot codes and post them? .
Oscar sweden 0 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 there are no number on the pots, just a gibson logo.
Nilzon Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Couldnt it be a Custom Shop/VOS? They are (AFAIK) serial numbered as: YYRRRM Y is the production year RRR® indicates the guitar's place in production for that year. M is the model being reissued Reissue model codes: 1= SG Custom and Special 2= SG Standard 3= 1963 Firebird 1 4= 1964 Firebird III 5= 1965 Firebird V & VII 8= 1968 Les Paul Custom Sure looks like it could be a Custom/VOS/Historic.
Nilzon Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Ive now seen the (new) ad for the 2000 SG w.sn 000591 and its clearly a Custom Shop. http://www.blocket.se/goteborg/Gibson_Custom_SG_Special_NYTT_PRIS_37919298.htm?ca=11
GuitarJunkie Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Two things are clear from the photos... 1) It's Custom Shop 2) It's freakin' awesome!!!
