:oilpit:
How does a '57 classic plus compare to a Burstbucker Pro-Bridge In heat and such, nobody say "warm" or "creamy" I hate those words. I suspect AXE will rip on me for saying that.......
Wolff
I have the '57 Classic + in my 'SG and I wished I never went and replaced the Iommi pup I modded it with when I first got it. I'm not that crazy about the '57 + pup. I have the Burstbucker Pro in one of my LPs and I like that better. I'd say it's better for hard rock but I'm usually wrong and in a minute here all are going to disagree with me.
:oilpit:
Isn't the Iommi pup super dooper hot?

Wolff
Isn't the Iommi pup super dooper hot? Bingo! Actually I don't think it is 'super-dooper', but it is high output. I read somewhere that it is the highest output pup Gibson makes although I don't know if that still holds true. I need to learn how to replace my own pups because I spend way too much money switching around and paying the shop do it. I may either put the Iommi pup back in or else get a set of the SD SH6 pups like in my LP or maybe those Dirty Fingers pups.
Thundergod
I need to learn how to replace my own pups because I spend way too much money switching around and paying the shop do it. I may either put the Iommi pup back in or else get a set of the SD SH6 pups like in my LP or maybe those Dirty Fingers pups. You can get a cheap pickup set from ebay and learn with that one (in a cheap guitar too, or just soldering them to a set of pots and a jack, so that you can check them with a multimeter)... it's easy but you have to be very careful... my tech friend (that actually does not do any tech work for me ) was soldering some pickups last week and the soldering gun (or however it is called) slipped from his right hand... in fear of damaging an expensive guitars' finish (60s gibson hollowbody, I dont remember the model right now) he reached with his other hand and caught the thing... big mistake, he now cant play for a week or two till his hand heals. Are the dirty fingers pickups hotter than the Iommi pickups? I think "the menace" comes with stock dirty fingers pups... am I right?
AXE®
The Menace comes with smoky-coil 490R & 498T... 57s are clean and a nice tone.
Tom99SS
THe BB Pro has one bobbin wound more than the other this gives it a bit or edge/bite to the sound. The '57 bobbins are wound the same thus more balanced sound. '57s have Alnico II magnets where the BB Pros have Alnico V magnet. Alnico V magnets are stronger thus the BB Pros are very sensitive to height adjustments and can sound a little trebly if adjusted too high. As far as DC resistance the BB Pro is about 8.2K, I do not know what the '57 Plus reads. Hope this helps. Here is a good link , too bad the audio is not great so you really have to listen.
