xchrisbobisx
does anyone use screwless pickguards? http://bobbyleesignatureseries.com/ my pickguard dosent bother me but LP's without a pickguard look so much different. i didnt take mine off because im still prone to a lot of scratching, and i always had a inkling for a big permanent screw hole in my guitar. Wolff
VERY interesting. I've been wanting to add the pickguard to my burst LP but hate the idea of drilling holes in it. This seems tempting, but it kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a correct looking guard. IMO, the hanger looks neat.

Wolff
Would you put one of those on your LP Custom Dave?
jeff_farkas
I like the idea but I doubt I would use it myself. Jeff
Flight959
I think the screwless is a great idea...Nothing seems worse than drilling a holes in a work of art. I personally dont like pick guards but then I dont like covers on Pups either with exception to Tim's R8... I love that worn faded look on pickup covers..hmmmmmmmmmmmm Regards Flight959
daveinspain
Would you put one of those on your LP Custom Dave? Don't need to, it came with one. The Robot didn't...
Wolff
OK, I guess you don't see my point Dave so I'll just drop it.
daveinspain
OK' date=' I guess you don't see my point Dave so I'll just drop it. [/quote'] Nothing is as good as an original... The screwless guard I have on my Robot is transparent and thats what I wanted to have on the Robot. Its the same material Gibson used on the back covers so it goes really well on the guitar. It even has the slight blue tinge to it like the back covers. Most of the screwless guards are normal colors, not transparent, and are hard to tell they aren't regular pick guards. I would have to answer yes. i would put one on a Custom or reissue... I mean why not, it protects the guitar, leaves no marks and looks pretty good... What don't you like about them? xchrisbobisx
yeah i think they look the same. minus the big piece of metal that tells you theres a big screw and hole in your guitar. the transparent one is genious, has all the pros of a pickguardless les paul and none of the cons. you wont have the fear of leaving a big skid mark on your paint. they technically are not screwless though they go into your pickups. but i guess w/ the silicone at the tail you wouldent accidentally pick so hard you pull your pickup out. Wolff
What don't you like about them? First of all' date=' your Robot looks [i']great[/i] with that pickguard because of the color and its a 'modern' looking guitar. There is a thread somewhere way back where I even commented on how cool that PG looks. My point is that for a LP that is in the traditional historic style that goes back to the 50s like your BB or my sunburst, to my eye it wouldn't look proper to have anything but a Gibson original style pickguard attached with the hanger and 2 screws. *on a sidenote, my Dad was a tool and die maker and he made me a clear plexiglass PG for the Aria BB copy I had when I was a teen. Still have it. Haha - I guess I wasn't as fussy back then.
Aaresz
I purchaesed a screwless pickguard for my LP and am very happy with it. IMHO a Les Paul doesn't look right without it, Wolff your avatar is a good example of what I mean. Though I am hesitant to drill holes into my top. For me it is a perfect solution because I have a tendacty to rest my fingers in that area, which is the true purpose of it. Going back to the Gibson L5 period this feature was always intended to be a finger rest, not a protective piece for the top. To each there own. SRV-Zeppelin
I agree, LPs don't look right without pickguards... if they're in HCS. Other finishes I don't mind (Honey burst, etc.) To each their own. +1... that's what's important, right?
Beaver Creek
What do you guys think about a chrome screwless pickguard on the guitar in my avatar? It's a DG 335 and I am beginning to leave a mark on it where my fingers rest. The reason I mentioned chrome, is I have a Black Les Paul Custom also with chrome hardware, and it has a chrome pickguard. They would match in looks this way. Twins........... And does the screwless pickguard leave a mark where that silicone bumper is? Lee

Beaver Creek
Dave, Thanks.............And I think the pickguard on your Robot adds to it. If that bumper doesn't leave a mark, I think I'll go with it. Lee
