Timrobwall Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Thinking of installing Schaller locking machine heads on the 339. Tuning on this guitar can be touchy, IMO. Will M6 2000 or other Schaller locking machines fit into tulip head holes, or is drilling required? Thanks.
StijnV Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Hi, We can never guarantee that replacement tuners will fit without extra drilling/filling, as it can always be that this is needed. An experienced luthier should be able to help you further however.
roadhog96 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Sounds like your having the same problem everyone has experienced with Gibson. More than likely it's an improper cut nut that's causing the strings to bind. Usually there is nothing wrong with the tuners and always the nut when we're talking about tuning issues with Gibson guitars. If you have no experience with it, have a good luthier check it because you can really mess it up if you don't know what your doing.
Sunburst PB Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Have you thought of switching out the tailpiece for a TP-6 instead of changing the tuners?
johnnyraff Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 My 339 custom came with grovers, I also have them on an sg that they came stock with, Id recomend them, the schallers dont look right, plus you have to drill a small hole.
guitarzan55 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 My 339 custom came with grovers, I also have them on an sg that they came stock with, Id recomend them, the schallers dont look right, plus you have to drill a small hole. My 339 came with the standard Klusons and virtually every other 339 I have seen have Klusons. How did your's get the grovers I wonder? I love Grovers -- it would definitely be a plus for the 339, but as the standard tuners on the 339 -- well, that's a mystery how that happened.
