Flight959 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Do any of you guys use this stuff? I recently insured my guitars with a Musical insurance company that provide Smartwater as part of their policy Smartwater is a solution that can be applied to any valuable item which is quick and easy to use. Its colourless a virtually impossible to remove. The solution contains a code which is unique to you!! If your items are stolen there is an increased chance you will get them back. Its also used to resolve disputes over ownership. It has a 100% conviction rate in court, acts as a good deterrent and his driven down burglary as much as 56% in parts of the UK. Its not much but its something.. Just thought I would share it with you guys. Regards
LarryUK Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 It's been used on motorbikes for years. It's got good reviews.
grampa Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I say if you want to have such a uniquely personal tag on you guitar in order to prove ownership I say just bleed on it and you will have your DNA on it which is a rather good method of identifying.
KL Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 If you use that smartwater on your gear put it in a place that is not obvious because it sometimes leaves a shiny area that stays there. So for example if it is an amp don't put it on the faceplate, but somewhere at the back that is unobtrusive. On your electrics you can put a bit inside the control cavity, and on acoustics inside under the top etc.
retrosurfer1959 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 never even heard of smart water but about a dozen of mine have electronic chips in them so they can be identified.
Jeff-7 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Uh, this is the only Smartwater I've heard of:
