I'm thinking $300 - $400. But after trying out and listening to a Epi Sheraton II at the local guitar shop.. I'm pretty set on that look and that sound. I might just save up for a Epi Lucille or find one used since I want to mainly learn how to play BB King, John Lee Hooker and Stevie Ray Vaughan songs. And with the varitone I can come a little close to SRV'S sound and right on with BB King and JLH songs. I gotta say I like the look of the Casino and still want to hear the difference from the humbuckers in Lucille and Sheraton II compared to the P 90's.

Is that $300-$400 for the whole package or for the guitar?

Because if it's for the guitar alone, you'd have to save up to get an expensive one...

Remember that you'll need to spend about half of that money in a little tube practice amp. Why? Because buying a $200 tube amp and a $200 guitar will give you 20 times (if not more) better sound than buying a $350 guitar and a $50 crappy little amp. You'll just have to trust me on this one I'm afraid, but the amplifier makes the most massive difference to the sound. In fact, amplifier > effects > guitar in terms of what affects your sound the most. Given that you want to play blues, those little bedroom <10w bedroom tube amps should be quite pleasing on their own. Try and find a used guitar at that price IMO, and invest the rest into a little tube amp.

Now with that said, you should always buy a guitar that you like. I keep saying this in here, but if you don't like the guitar, you're not going to be excited about playing it, so it'll just be a waste of money. So try to strike your own balance on this. If you're excited about the Lucille or the Sheraton, then buy one of those, and you'll love your guitar... but with a cheap solid state amp, you won't love your sound. And you need to like both in order to stay interested.

I think I covered both sides of the argument. The decision is up to you... But let's listen to what more experienced forum members have to say...

For your consideration, I just picked up this Fender Blacktop Strat a few months ago. Dual H'buckers with a 5-way switch to split the coils for true Strat and Tele tone. Its very nice with my TS808. Very Bluesy.I recently put Chrome Dome Knobs and a Chrome Switch tip on it.They sell for $499.Very well made for a MIM strat.

Just to add my 2 cents in here:

I want to put in a word for the P90-equipped LPs. Not so much the most recent P90 Special II (basswood, bolt-on neck, cheap slippy-slidey tuners) but the "special run" a few months back; I think it was called the Special II SC (for "single cut"), which had the slab mahogany body (well, heavier wood than the present run, anyway), set neck and Grover tuners. I think they were marked at about $379. at GC and similar places. You see a lot of Gibsons of this configuration in pix of the "old guys."

Get one now, learn the guitar, and get the other later. then mod the hell out of them and make them sound awesome! I play both strats and pauls and am not ashamed of it. I think both guitars are very good. As far as the specific ones you are talking about, I have owned. Quality wise they are a toss up. Sound wise the Epi is fuller and the Squier is clearer. both handle distortion well. I think the deciding factor would be the amp and which guitar you prefer. Go with preference first and know that the Epi amp is better then the Squier by a good little bit.

Also, if you are on a budget try this brand and just find a used amp you like. They can only be found at this site, but their quality is really nice for the price and its like buying an already modded guitar. http://www.guitarfetish.com/Xaviere-Electric-Guitars_c_116.html

try the XV650 or the XV600 or the XV500 IMHO. the 650 and 600 are fixed up with P-90s so you get single coil tones but with Gibby warmth. you may also be interested in the XV870.

+1 on that. The Xavieres are not bad at all for the price. You can also check out the Agile LP's.
