philsett
I just got a beautiful new 335 cherry with satin finish. My 7 year old son has already made some light scratches between the pickups by strumming wildly! Though they're hard to see.. Those first scratches are always the hardest to bear! What's the standard for maintaining these satin finish guitars, and can scratches like this be rubbed out?> love that guitar!!
RudyH
I was told that Gibson's guitar polish contains lacquer and is for polishing Gibson guitars in such a way as to remove small scratches. I have not tried it, but the dealer recommended it. You will need to do more research about the value of this product. I have no personal experience with it and I don't know if it is compatible with your satin finish. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PolishPump/ Here's the blurb: Gibson Accessories Polish Pump Guitar Polish in Pump Bottle Wood has to resonate in order to produce sound, and a guitar that's covered in grime not only looks dull, but it sounds dull since the wood can't vibrate properly. But you can't just use any polish. This Gibson Guitar Polish is formulated for nitro-cellulose lacquer. Use with a Gibson Polish Cloth for best results. bobv
I can't see how it's possible for a pump polish to contain lacquer. Any polish will add a little shine and diminish the scratches, whether it's Martin pump polish (now made by Guardsman) or Gibson or something for furniture off the shelf in the grocery store. If you want to remove the scratches entirely, you'd need something abrasive like a rubbing compound and then you're getting into issues of trying to match the surrounding sheen - I wouldn't try it unless you've got experience buffing out wood finishes. Besides, having your son strum on it is something to be proud of.

Ken Rayba
I thought for satin finished guitars all you need is a damp cloth, that is what is recommended by Taylor. I really don't think the Gibson Pump polish could hurt it. I have never used a polish on my Taylor satin finish, just on the spruce top which they suggest using a polish.
