OnTour
Hello there, New to the board and Gibson's in general and am thinking of buying this acoustic but would appreciate a little more info on it (Model #, approximate year, value). Can you help me? Thanks! OnTour
j45nick
Late 40's or early 50's LG-3. If it has a FON stamped inside on the neck block, we can pin it down closer. Looks nice!
jedzep
I think Nick's got the model and approx. yr. down. I've seen them go for $2,500. and up. That one looks to be in particularly good shape. May I ask what the selling price is?
pfox14
Nice looking LG-3. I'd say early to mid-50s
OnTour
Wow, really? I was thinking late 60's L-0. May I ask what the differences are? I will HAPPY to share the sale price once I pick it up this evening! Thanks guys! And more pics to follow once it's in hand. Nice looking LG-3. I'd say early to mid-50s

jedzep
Peek inside just to be sure it isn't a refinished LG1. You want to see the 'V' shaped bracing just below the soundhole attached to the underside of the top. If it is ladder braced (straight across) don't offer more than a thou. Sure.. that back center strip inside the guitar I believe was never inside the LG0 .. and these guys know there guitars.. put your finger inside the sound hole towards the bridge... does it touch a V .. or is it a straight piece that your finger can slide accross.? it would be a X brace or a straight brace. jedzep
Happy birthday! Those little Xbraced Gibsons are my fav. Last I looked there was a late 50's LG3 on Ebay with the bigger p'guard offered at a $1400 start price. I was close to bidding...can't quite figure why it hasn't sold. OnTour
Gotcha, I fully believe you guys. I'm just excited to leave to go pick it up. I am REALLY looking forward to reporting back on the bracing and with some sweet pics.
j45nick
Bridge is the 'tell'. 19-fret board and teardrop pickguard, too. Looks sweet to me.
retrorod
Also ,check the peghead taper! If it goes full at the neck to a thinner taper at the top it would be pre-'52 or so.... Also, check to see if it has been re-finished at some point...
OnTour
Alright guys, The guitar is in hand and based on all of your great advice, I am really digging this old LG-3! The number stamp reads Y5896 5. I was told this indicates it as a 1953, correct me if I'm wrong and let me know if it indicates any other interesting info. I am currently deciding whether to keep it or not, so if you have a trade or cash offer, please let me know. Pics to come later today, I hope! Does it have fresh strings for your 'tryout'? Wanna' email pics and price to jedzep@gmail.com for my consideration, as I've been contemplating bidding on the '58 available on Ebay. Thanks, Dave. Wanna' email pics and price to jedzep@gmail.com for my consideration, as I've been contemplating bidding on the '58 available on Ebay. Thanks, Dave. Well, it sounds beautiful, nice strings, I will play it and give it a thorough try out. I also think I got way more than I paid for, and way more than I was originally looking for, so I am weighing my options. I enjoy the guitar community and the knowledge abound is incredibly interesting so if I do make a move on it, I'd like it to be fair for both parties. I am pausing at naming a price, that's why I opened it to offers. I'm happy to provide some more pics.

Since this has apparently turned from a prospective buyer seeking help identifying a guitar to a buyer trying to flip it for profit, it might be appropriate to move this thread to the "Trading Post" sub-forum, where it appears to belong now. OnTour
Well, it was not intended to be a flip and I am not sure what I am going to do with it. I had no idea what I was getting. SO my apologies for whoring your board. Please move this thread to wherever you guys feel it is most appropriate. Until j45nick mentioned it, I didn't even know this board had a trading post, hahaha. If it's ok, I would like to stick around for awhile.
