Lefty Adams
Hi - Looking to buy my first LP but just wondering what the Traditional LP is like versus the Standard. Both models are available in left handed models and the Standard is more expensive than the Trad, but why? Is it the construction or woods used or the pick-ups? Thanks ... Gary Moore Tribute
Hi - Looking to buy my first LP but just wondering what the Traditional LP is like versus the Standard. Both models are available in left handed models and the Standard is more expensive than the Trad, but why? Is it the construction or woods used or the pick-ups? Thanks ... I own both so I can tell you the differences The Standard features: # DC style neck (fatter on bass side) # Locking Grover Tuners # Locking Jack # Locking Dunlop Strap Lok's # BB Pro's Pickups # New Gibson pots & circuit board # Chambered body # 8.4lb's The Tradition on the other hand... # 50's or 60's Neck # Metal plated CTS Pots # 57 Classic Pickups # Classic Kluson Tuners # Weight Relieved # 9.4lb's Essentially your paying £300+ more for the locking goodies, brighter pickups & other gibson upgrades Again with anything Try before you buy, BUT I will say 08 Std & trd are getting harder to find now... Rabs
The new Classic Custom is pretty awesome too (getting GREAT reviews).. If I was going to get a new LP at around that price id probably have to go for the Classic Plus, I personally love that pickup combo of 496R and T500 which are uncovered and hot hot hot (and the colours are amazing)... But as stated above it comes down to personal taste. Best thing to do is go try them, they are all great guitars :)
Markini
I 2nd the Classic Custom, outstanding quality , tone and looks. Best guitar I ever purchased. I like it better than my pristine Es 335. Had it for 2 weeks now and the "Aura" has not worn off, can't wait to get off of work and play it
Morkolo
If I were to pick between a Traditional and a Standard I'd go with the Traditional. I like the weight and feel of it and when both are plugged in I find the Traditional sounds woodier.
Lefty Adams
I do not think the new LP's (Classic Custom, or the Classic) have a lefty version. At least I have not seen one on line; so unless I some how missed it that would be a serious hamper in getting one lefty. Between the Standards and Traditionals? If cash is no issues in my situation I would go with the Traditional with the 57's. For you go to a store and try them all out, see which one calls out to you. Remember to grab a amp similar to yours and play it in clean mode; you can always make a guitar sound distorted the proof in the pudding is it being played clean or not plugged in. Yes you're right, that's why it comes down to traditional or standard you see ...
