buliwyf
I've never had many effects pedals never really got into them but now that I'm buying new guitars and amp I was thinking of getting some pedals to pump up the sound. What effect pedals do you think are necessary to get a killer rock sound?I still have a metal zone distortion pedal and a cry baby Wah but that's it and I hardly ever use either.I was thinking of getting an echo (I like the TC electronic flashback delay)http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Flashback# I'd also like a chorus but havent decieded what brand, what else does every one else find necessary for a great sound even with a good amp. Thanks! EVOL!
What style of music do you play? Recommending a good analog delay and Velcro-like Ge fuzz box would be silly if you play prog rock.
buliwyf
Mostly hard rock,Zeppelin,Ozzy,Priest, and if the feelins right some Gary Moore, Blues and now that I got the Santana SE I love his tone also.I like the fat big humbucker tone but I'm definatly not into the thin Tele,Strat quackin, chicken picken stuff. If someone else digs it cool but I just dont. I watched the demo on the TC electronic flashback delay http://www.sweetwate...tail/Flashback# and I like the price and the functions.
dem00n
You want an overdrive/gain pedal. Might wanna look up Pro guitar shop on youtube and check out the pedals they have.
JazzGtr
EFX pedals are like the different types of food groups on a Thanksgiving dinner plate. Some pedals you will need and some you won't. There's the wah wah, the tuner (a must have pedal), the chorus, the volume, the Overdrives (another must have type of pedal at least one), the envelope filter, the clean boosters, the phasers, the delay (another must have), the reverb and compressors. But most importantly you have to decide what type of music you are going to play because not all types of pedals are used with all types of music. Also, unlike that dinner plate, the costs of many pedals can costs as much as a good guitar. Good luck. Jazz, B)
heymisterk
Honestly, I could do without all of my pedals except my tuner and wah. I do use my SuperFuzz on occasion, but my flanger, delay, and Leslie simulator mostly go unused.

charlie brown
Well, for it what it's worth....I'd get the absolute best tone, you can, from your guitar and amp, alone...first! If/When you've done that, then add only the pedals, that you'll use consistently, and that are useful, for the type music, you want to play. And...add them, only, as you (really) need them. As to brands??? Go out and play as many as you can, and decide which work best, for YOU. P.A.S. (Pedal Acquisition Syndrome), is easily as serious, if not more so, than G.A.S. djroge1
Perhaps I missed it but what amp are you using because that will make a difference. The Ibanez Tube Screamer will sound very different through different tube amps but even more different through a solid state amp. As CB said you should try to get a killer tone from your Guitar & Amp first then add to that. Think of it as painting a picture - you begin with the basics in the picture then add details as you go along. Your guitar and amp are the basics and the pedals are the details. krock
Ive really been getting into Joyo pedals lately. Ove got the chorus and compressor at the moment and am planning on getting the one that is based on the OCD or that freekish blues used (which ever way you wish to look at it)

EVOL!
By bluesguitar65 at 2011-09-21 Is that the Bonermassoff fuzz face? Love the sound out of those things.

I have a <F word> Overdrive (a very non-Tube Screamer OD like the Klon) that I run into my OD808. Stacking overdrives like that is tone heaven. Dub-T-123
Here´s my current pedalboard...you don´t really need much more... Uploaded with ImageShack.us I dig this pedalboard. It needs a fuzz, but other than that, it's pretty sweet. Who built that Klone? I dig the shiny enclosure of the Bonermassa fuzz, but my ego tells me I could put together a better sounding Fuzz Face. BIGBENDS
The one pedal i wish I had when I was learning to play 30 years ago is a looper. Use it now for being creative when I need a backing track. Great learning tool.

Even with a good amp basically giving me the sound I want, I'll still have a boost pedal of some sort in front of it just so I can add some dirt to a clean channel or drive the dirt channel of the amp a bit harder at the push of a switch rather than changing the amp settings. I use a BB Preamp, but whatever works for you is the right one to get. After that I'd say the effect I use the most is delay, so that would be my suggestion as a 'starting out' effect to get. Which one again is up to you. I haven't tried the Flashback yet, but TC is usually a safe bet.
