Taylorplayer
To all - I'm considering swapping out the neck pickup on my Epi WildKat. Can anyone tell me if it is a 2-wire conductor or a 4-wire? I want to make sure the replacement one will be compatible with the existing wiring. Thanks in advance! rubyred
I have GFS P90 in mine and from memory cant recall but the GFS had 4 wires.
Pennyman
It's 2-wire; I posted the wiring diagram here: http://forum.gibson....wiring-diagram/ Just curious, why replace the neck pup? I much prefer the neck over the bridge, personally.

But now I am confused -- would the replacement pickup need to be a "2 wire" or a "4 wire"? My reason for wanting the change is to get a mini "jazz" humbucker - to round things out a bit on the guitar.
rubyred
You could use either - up to the pickup you want to use. before you take the old ones out - draw a diagram of how they are wired. Should be a simple swap over. Do some research on the p-ups wiring you are going to use.

So, rubyred, even if the pickup is advertised as being a "4 wire" unit, I could still wire it to the existing harness -- even if it's just a 2 wire unit in place now? Sorry to be so dense folks, but I am much better versed about acoustics than 'lectrics! So, thanks for your patience on this. Thanks again to all! rubyred
I could still wire it to the existing harness -- even if it's just a 2 wire unit in place now? quick answer - yes. you will find on 4 wire p-ups that if you are doing a standard replacement, 2 wires will be soldered together, and the other 2 will connect with the existing connections. Basically you will only use 2 in this situation. I found this site to be very helpful. wiring diagrams
