Remember When Rock use to be Melodic?

Yeah, they were "magical" decades, musically. There's great, melodic, music now, and in every era...

you just have to look for it, more, nowadays. That, that isn't "cookie cutter," Pop/Country/"rock," that is.

One reason I loved The Pretenders, Tom Petty, and later The Wallflowers...is, that they were not only

great bands, but the music was great, as well...plenty of melody, as well as decent/great lyrics. There

are other's, as well. They just don't seem to get much "air play," the way the great 50's, 60's and

early-mid 70's music did. But, it's a much different world, now. Lots of "choices," in how to listen,

never mind what. So...

Magical times weren't they [thumbup] [thumbup] Wouldn't trade it for the world!!

======================================================================================================================================== I'am not sure but there is nothing that a lot of pop music etc. has today that could come close to it! the boys in HUMBLE PIE were all awesome! really miss Steve Marriott! the mid 60s to the early 70s what a spectacular period rock wise anyhow! I think good singers died with Joey Ramone... I haven't been wowed by anything to come out of my generation. Tbh, if I could be famous, I'd try to turn rock back to what it once was and I'd definitely recruit some guys from both here and the Fender Forums. I also think computers have no place in the music industry. It's dumb to enhance your sound because you can't play, or to make "music" when all you do is mix and layer a few tracks and can't sing or play an instrument.

I don't think I have a song made past 1996 on my iPod. I'm not sure though, but at least a majority of it is from the 60s-90s. Maybe an occasional funny rap song I hear, but nothing more. I guess I just have an envy of those who were able to live before the internet, before "Planet Wuss" as TAA put it. I just want that childhood where I didn't have the internet, or cellphones, or anything high tech. I just want to see people being people rather than mindless objects. You'd have to read Fahrenheit 451 to understand what I mean. After reading it, my eyes were opened to what a shame the human race has become. But after reading it, I started existing less and living more.

(Sorry if I went a bit crazy with this post, but it's a whole bunch of jumbled emotions atm. and I'm really stressed and in a lot of physical pain)

Was Hendrix against technology? I don't listen to modern music either, except MGMT.

No offense but rock n roll died because people stopped progressing. It just became the same boring electric guitar, bass, drums, vocals combination. It was raped until it lost all of its artistic credibility. What are we supposed to sit Sit around and make music like that for eternity Rock n roll isn't a music genre it's a state of mind.

Basically, they progressed too much imo. If people learned to play, rather than using a computer to help them, they'd sound better. Also, if people made music for the sake of music, they'd sound better. Most of the bands today are repetitive garbage and shitty sweep solos.

Ahh...when Rock use to be melodic and the singers actually sang a note. Thank god, I grew up during those time. :)

Wow...that middle interlude on Deep Purple's "Burn" is saturated with classical music influence. You can trace that influence all the way back to the 18th century (The Classical Period). That is incredible stuff [thumbup]

Thanks, but I'm helping a friend renovate his house. I'm doing a lot of footwork, heavy lifting, etc. I have a lot of joint pain atm, and can barely feel my legs. I was working until about 11:00pm. I got to my friend's place around 3:00pm.

Only 5 more days of this (if everything goes as planned)
