retrorod
I was downloading some lyrics this morning and came across some great songs, that I would like to learn again. Thought it might be entertaining if anyone wanted to post a favorite lyrical line or verse from a song. I'll go first...From John Hiatt's song 'Ethylene' Now some men will drive to the edges of nothing So they can take a peak at the great abyss Some men avoid love Like it was a plague or something So they can leave the seat down When they piss The whole song is full of brilliant lyrical content. Here it is..

57classic
There's a whole wide world of choices but 1 that comes to mind: "I got a girl and I got a gun, one is for fightin and the other's just for fun" - Saw You Runnin-New Grass Revival
Hogeye
I was watching a PBS special and they had a group of song writers sitting on chairs in a circle. Waylon and Willy were both there. When it was Waylon's turn he sang a tune he'd written. The best line I ever heard. The song was about a girl that had broken his heart, sold his dog and wrecked his truck, you know the standard country lament but the last line was; "If I'd killed you when I met you I'd be out of jail by now". Willy was laughing so hard he almost fell off his chair. The other is from Bobby McGee. "I'm feelin' near as faded as my jeans".
blindboygrunt
Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind, Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves, The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach, Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow. Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves, Let me forget about today until tomorrow. Sandro
Looking out the door i see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water And maybe I'm too young to keep good love from going wrong But tonight you're on my mind so you never know When I'm broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it Where are you tonight, child you know how much i need it Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run Jeff Buckley

I've never been sure what that even means or if Paul knows what that means. .... It's definitely of the era - Make love, not war. Good karma, the golden rule . . . by doing loving things for others, you, in turn, will receive love. And in the end, the love you take with you to whatever is next, will be equal to the love you have given.
Rambler
Pithy truths from the folk idiom.... As through this world you ramble, you meet some funny men, some rob you with a six gun, some with a fountain pen Woodrow Wilson Guthrie, Pretty Boy Floyd "You can go to your college you can go to your school If you dont have Jesus your an educated fool" Washington Phillips, Denomination Blues and, some memorable food metaphors. " I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee." Coyotes in a coffe shop, staring hole in his scrambled eggs." Nothing profound, but they paint a picture. boozeball
Now some folks they wait And some folks they pray For Jesus to rise up again But none of these folks In their holy cloaks Ever took Billy on as a friend For pity's a crime And it ain't worth a dime To a person who's really in need Just treat 'em the same As you would your own name Next time that your heart starts to bleed
