Though we rush ahead to save our time

we are only what we feel

And I love you - can you feel it now. . .

Early N. Young

For having such a short and complicated life, the Buffalo Springfield produced some great music, and set the stage for the explosive careers of some of its members, including Neil Young.

Autumn blew its leaves at me

Threatening winter as I walked

Summer always goes so quick, barely stopping like my thoughts

Which dip and spin and change so fast

I have to wonder - will I last

Through the windows of the train

I caught reflections of a paper cup

Hanging small in a pale blue sky

Never knowing which way's up

Above the clouds, what's to be found

I have to wonder - will I be around

As my anger shouts - at my own self doubt

So a sadness creeps - into my dreams

When you're scared of living - but afraid to die

I get scared of giving - and I must find the faith to beat it

I must be me that's rushing by

Time just lingers on the wind

Bristlin' through my open fears

I wonder what it's going to bring

Above the clouds, what's to be found

I have to wonder - will I be around

Run and hide, run and hide

I catch the sail at evening's tide

Thinking back, it is hard to beat Hank...

Hear that lonesome whippoorwill

He sounds too blue to fly

The midnight train is whining low

I'm so lonesome I could cry

I've never seen a night so long

When time goes crawling by

The moon just went behind a cloud

To hide its face and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep

When leaves began to die

That means he's lost the will to live

I'm so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star

Lights up a purple sky

And as I wonder where you are

I'm so lonesome I could cry

I'm going to add a couple from two different veins here. One being more thought provoking that is still pretty straightforward, and one that hits me in the face with a 2x4 every time I hear it and makes me laugh uncontrollably for a minute or two

Hank Williams may have been a love sick drinker,

Being a love sick drunk don't make you Hank

I'll take the Pepsi challenge, world's hardest working hoes

You try sellin' a#$ at 20 below

That was the first Jefferson Airplane song I learned (back when Surrealistic Pillow was a brand-new album!), and it's still a great one. Perfect San Francisco 60's feeling, recorder solo and all.

Still have my original 1967 vynl,a cassette, CD

Love that album

Do away with people blowing me mind!

Do away with people wasting my.......precious time

Struma6 - I have long wanted to appreciate Tom Waits but have used a hit or miss methodology. Any recommendations on the best place to start?

Me as well, though he wrote the melodic 'Jersey Girl'. My beautiful wife and I used to get chills listening to the album, Frank's Wild Years, it was so damn good. Now, since she passed, I can't listen w/o welling up with tears.

Try that album, I think it's the least cocophonic and disjointed.

'Today's grey skies are tomorrow's tears,

You'll have to wait 'til yesterday's here.'

From TWaits FWYears album.

Never heard of Peter Paul and Mary Weller, , , ?

Ooops! Guess I tried to block them out. Too folked up for me, though I have to credit them with being part of the magic monent that caused me to first grab a geetar.

I worshipped my big sis' and when she sat down with her PP&M, Bob Dylan, and Joan Baez songbooks to play, I got the bug and never lost it. She dropped the guitar and took up boyfriends. I just kept looking up chords.

Sheez', I'm thinking I could be run out of this esteemed group for not ID'ing that icon.

For those wanting a heavy dose of the Jefferson Airplane without seeking out all the individual albums, the "2400 Fulton Street" compilation covers a large percentage of the band's high points over the years in something over two hours. (Way too much double entendre in that sentence.)

I still hope someday to make the pilgrimage to the Fur Peace Ranch for some lessons from JK.

Grace Slick once called them 'those silly little songs'. My own version of 'Embryonic Journey' is evolving, simpler but I'm actually proud enough of it (on certain days). After learning the two songs 'Today' and 'I Saw You', I finally realized ONLY they should be allowed to play it, EVER.

One of the things I like about talking music with my contemporaries is the range of artists and styles we cover in our memories. I've always felt that, at 59, I grew up in a period of musical rennaissance (not sure about The Jam's contribution), something our parents may disagree with. You folks all seem to be also under that spell. From Willie Dixon to Insane Clown Posse...what a long road. Not sure I can take much more.
