tpaoli
It seems it is a guitar of the week #27. Carved mahogany top on mahogany back, faded cherry finish. Is that correct? How do you feel it? Cheers. Tommy
rybass
That's really sweet! I love that mahogany top with the cherry finish and binding. Very classy.
jdriehuis
yeah pretty sure it is a guitar of the week from week 27. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Gibson%20USA/Guitars/Discontinuted%20Models/Guitar%20of%20the%20Week/Les_Paul_Classic_Antique-Wk_27/ Such a light guitar and that 60-ies neck feels great. Couldn't be happier than I am now and the sound is soo sweet.

tpaoli
Do you guys think this guitar is going to become rare and increase value as time goes on?
jdriehuis
Do you guys think this guitar is going to become rare and increase value as time goes on? who knows. If the classic antique stays discontinued and they won't it out as a special again in this color then it might become valuable in a few decades. SRV-Zeppelin
Congrats on the new axe, man! Gorgeous finish, by the way, I never really liked cherry on a Les Paul (except for HCS of course), but it works great on this guitar!

rocketman
Beautiful guitar. Tell us about its sound. Have you compared it to a standard LP with a maple top?

jdriehuis
Beautiful guitar. Tell us about its sound. Have you compared it to a standard LP with a maple top? Compared it both to a LP Classic and a 59' standard reissue. It sound a lot cleaner and warmer than the Classic in the neck position but still nice and heavy in the bridge position. Sound wise it was closer to the 59 but the guitar is much lighter so not as much sustain. Like I said the guitar feels super light as far a Les Pauls go and that 60'ies neck just feels like an extention of my body. But what's your opinion people, will it become more valuable seeing as it is a limited model (400 units produced)?
tpaoli
I don’t think it is previous of sustain. I’ve got one of them in my hands during these days. As far as I can say from my experience (I’ve got many guitars: music man, fender, ibanez, etc) based on a previous les paul standard I had, this guitar has really a very nice sound, not too treble-oriented such the les paul I had (it endorsed 490R and 498T). I think the reason is not only in the different pickups (PAF 57 here), but also the wood. A maple top emphasises higher frequencies, which is something some metal lovers like. I personally do not like too much trebles in the sound. The mahogany top (which was also used in the black beauty les paul custom) gives the guitar a very nice and warm sound, more medium oriented, with rich basses but very equilibrated. The top is carved, not plain, and is nicely bound to the body. It’s got its distinct sound. As for the value of the instrument I hope it increases over the time. Probably I will get one even for me, I’m currently evaluating the one I have taken from a shop I know. What should be a good retail price for it? Cheers.
