The FCC took my TV away and I ain't happy, neither. They went to DTV in order to free up some bandwidth so they could sell more band width to the highest bidder., thereby reducing my TV signal to about 15% of the time. Guess they want us all to think like New York, Chicargo, and L.A. They don't care about the 'whole lot of Alabama in betwixed.'

You mean get with the times. Digital TV has been the standard in all of East Asia and Europe for over a decade. We have been dragging our feet because no one could decide on the standards.

As bad as the Communications Act of 1996 was, it did mandate digital TV at some point so you knew this was coming.

And my opinion is that they should have given the unused bandwidth to small, community organizations for low radius broadcasting.

Can we please do something Mods, this is a forum based on Guitars, Music and Gibson. I know I have done a few threads not relating to main subject matter as have many others but the percentage towards posts lean towards music. Although majority of the OP is nothing but TV's, Junk TV's and jumping up and down on his mommy's bed and I will assume while watching TV's

I think these posts are wicked fun. It's the most excitement this board has seen in a long time.

Actually, no. When they announced you'd need a special box, which to their credit they paid for, I had no idea of the ramifications until they threw the switch. Bottom line, when it comes in, it is very clear. But when it doesn't, it doesn't. In the Analog days, a weak signal meant a snowy but watchable picture with decent audio. Now? it's all or nothing. Good picture or 'No Signal'. hopping around the screen, about 85% of the time. Getting more than one station requires an antennae rotor with micro-fine adjustment. As a matter of fact, for the first month we got 3 of our usual 4 stations, plus a fourth one we used to get, but only sporadically. Now we get one, very, very infrequently. RF TV has been Walmartized.

That's how digital TV works. Sorry you didn't get the reference data.

But they didn't, did they?

Nope. I blame Clear Channel. They won the lottery with this legislation. Deregulated the whole broadcast market at the expense of consumers.

True dat.

Actually, the winners were the little snot nosed Johnnies and Janies who absolutely could not function without his new-fangled-whizz-bang-latest-and-greatest-bejeweled-ruby-and-white-cellular phone-photo camera-music player-PDA-video camera-internets explorer-insult broadcaster-calendar keeper-grocery reminder-guitar tuner-girl friend getter-and bottle opener, for which the band width was freed up.

Bottom line, it was Walmartized.

Maybe he's a tv salesman that has some old tvs left and wants to sell them [confused]

I predict he'll start spamming the forum with great prices on old TVs in less than a week [biggrin]
