Tom Ball's converted PG-00

The recent threads on "Kenny Sultan' and "The allure of the small body" brought this to mind - it's an interesting conversion..

While Tom is primarily known as a vocalist and harmonica player, he is also an excellent guitar player and has released 4 solo guitar CDs apart from his musical partnership with Kenny Sultan. Acoustic Guitar magazine did an article on Tom & Kenny and included a side story on their guitars. Tom's is a converted 1936 Gibson 4-string PG-00...

Now I'm ticked! I lovingly stripped the crappy stain and poly recoat on my '36 PG-00 and thought about converting it, but was convinced it wouldn't handle 6 strings. Wish I went ahead after seeing this. Tom's a big 'ol boy...makes that geetar look like a uke.

What an ugly conversion. At least put a "period correct" bridge on it and fix all the problems on the body. Personally, I would have left it as a PG-00 and bought an L-00 if you really wanted a '36 6-string.

I agree. Wassup w/ the bellied bridge? $2500-3000 coulda' scored an old L0 or L00.
