raymondj
I've got a couple of white guitars with nitro finishes... I want to avoid changing the color as much as I can - should I not be storing these in cases with black interior? should I not be using a black polishing cloth? Please share your knowledge on the subject with me...
Bender 4 Life
has it caused a problem yet, or are you just considering using blk on wht?? are they already in blk-lined cases?
Versatile
IMO it is a lost cause (quite rightly) to attempt to 'suspend' the white colour on a Nitro finish guitar Part of the enjoyment is to see a guitar mellow with age and playing... pfox14
White guitars are like white carpet, they just don't stay like that for very long.
raymondj
has it caused a problem yet, or are you just considering using blk on wht?? are they already in blk-lined cases? It's been in a black lined skb case for about 1 yr and I noticed that when put next to brand new vintage white 6os tribute LP - same finish - it was strikingly yellow... I don't want it to turn like a sure yellow... should I avoid the black lined case?
Jeff-7
The case isn't causing the yellowing, time and use are. It will also yellow more quickly if there is a smoker in your residence/playing area.
raymondj
Thanks for the reply... I had heard that white nitro guitars should be stored in a case with white lining... How yellow do these get? I'm so into "white" guitars... Post a pic of any that are a few years old if you have access... Thanks!
DestructorsKillMusic1982
Now I'm wondering as well, my white Studio has resided for a couple years in a black-lined SKB case. It has plenty of yellowing, especially on the upper body where I apparently rest my arm alot. Now it also has prominent dye from a strap end that was with it in the case and has leeched into the nitro in the cutaway; any tips on how to get rid of that? Jeff-7
They'll eventually get almost buttery looking, as far as I know there is no way to remove the aging but I personally like how it looks.
stein
If one is 'faded' and the other is gloss, I wouldn't assume the gloss has gotten darker because it seems that way next to the other. It very well could have been more yellow to begin with. But everyone is correct in saying that attempting to keep it white is a lost cause. The things that will ACCELERATE the process are temperature/humidity extremes, exposure to sunlight, and oxygen. Cigarette smoke will also cause it to both get yellow faster, and it will darken it through staining. Cigarette smoke can leave a film on it. Often, you can polish it off, but not always. And I don't mean cleaning it off, I mean POLISHING, as in, serious rubbing compound and elbow grease for taking the top layer off. I like the idea of letting it do what it will do, and if need be, buy a new one years down the road. It won't turn yellow overnight, and there is no way to tell what shade it will be when it does. raymondj
ok - thanks for the replies... but will a case with black/dark lining accelerate/add to the natural process? I'd rather keep the guitar in its original white-lined gig bag if so... let me know your thoughts on that issue specifically - I would greatly appreciate your insights.
