Riffster Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Yea, Gibson was the first to do it in 1958 but i am glad they did not issue many Explorers with it, Sorry it is not only ugly but impractical, the angle of the string behind the nut to the tuners is just asking for trouble.
dem00n Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Man i love that guitar, its just so weird and...i want it so bad.
Riffster Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 There was one for sale locally on craigslist some time ago, it was there for months.
Morkolo Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I've always been a fan of the look of the Dean headstock, not so much for the Gibson version though..
AlanH Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 It does suit the Moderne though (although I prefer the headtock that looks like a painter's knife.)
KL Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I have seen several Gibson prototype electric mandolins with similar headstocks. They were not very practical instruments as the bridge was way close to the neck and I think they were made for a show like NAMM or something like that.
Searcy Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Love the Dean headstock. Not so big in the Futura head stock though.
Rocky4 Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 Sorry it is not only ugly but impractical, the angle of the string behind the nut to the tuners is just asking for trouble. It functions to add sustain according to Dean Zelinsky
Riffster Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Even if true, that ain't sweetening the deal for me,
This_Dying_Soul Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 on dean's more angular designs the dean headstock works in my opinion. It's distinctive. Even if the bodies are derived from Gibson designs, there's no mistaking a dean for a gibson once you see the headstock. I HATE their 6 in line headstocks. Although I think I know why they stopped using the design that they were using about 10 years ago when I had a Dean Avalanche 7 string. If I remember right it had 4 on one side and 3 on the other but it looked a lot like a Fender headstock. Wouldn't be surprised if Fender threatened legal action.
