MrBlade Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Hi, I´m new to the forum. I´m interested in guitar that I´m not sure about. It´s, according to the seller, an all original Es-295 custom shop 1998 wine red with black plastic details! Never seen anything like it, thought they all had white flowerguards and cream pickupcovers. Does anyone knows more about this, has it ever existed? Is it a one off? Looks more like a red es-175 w bigsby like this don´t you think?
JimR56 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Looks more like a red es-175 w bigsby like this don´t you think? Indeed it does. It could be correct, but I see no sense in labeling this an ES-295, unless it's been modified significantly from something more resembling an ES-295. Regardless, it looks good.
StijnV Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 It could be an Es-295, although the pickguard does not match; please find attached a picture and specs of the Es-295. Pictures from the back, including the serial number should give it away however !
JimR56 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Custom shops do all kinds of things, and that's great, but I still don't understand why a guitar like this (if it's un-modified) would have been labeled as a custom ES-295. That is, if it more closely resembles a custom ES-175, and lacks the specific features that were unique to the ES-295, why not label it as a custom ES-175? A pickguard can easily be changed, as well as the pickup covers, but a finish can not. This guitar is not gold, AND doesn't have the floral guard, or cream covers, so...?
MrBlade Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 The serialnr is 91038006, but can it tell you more than when it was made? Called them today and they says its all original, but maybe something´s lost on it´s way? As said, all the unique features are gone wich is strange! I Know there was a couple of wine red 295:s made in -96, a friend of mine owns one of them. But his is of course with the floral pickguard etc! Mystery.....
JimR56 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Well, people do all kinds of modifications, and I can easily see some owner deciding they didn't like the floral pickguard. But who knows. Here's an example of someone who likes different colored 295's: http://www.thegearpage.net/board//showthread.php?t=1022397
TomC Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I dont think this is a one off I have one of these. I will send you a pic.

The story I got was there were two wine red ES-295"s made and sent to Sweden at the same time. The serial number on mine is 90806058 and it does have the floral pickguard. The only thing I wonder about is the Orange Tag inside says Gibson Custom Made in Memphis and It is my understanding that the guitar was made in Montana??
