vagabond
I'm about to take an adventure in cleaning my Les Paul studio, but I seem to be finding a lot of conflicting opinions on how to go about doing it. I'm planning on using a flat razor (pulled out of a box cutter) to scrape the gunk off the fretboard. The questions I have are, should I remove all the strings, or will the loss of tension be damaging to the guitar? It seems to me that having the strings off for the length of the cleaning won't damage it, but I've read a lot of posts that seem to assert that it will. Also, what kind of cleaning solution should I use after I'm finished with the razor? I hear lemon oil is a popular choice, but also naptha. I don't know how comfortable I am with putting lighter fluid on my guitar though, and can't lemon oil dissolve the glue holding the frets? Also, what would the recommended cleaner be for cleaning the parts of the body that are finished? My guitar's neck is pretty dirty. Thanks in advance for the help
