5411GEAR Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Hello friends, I am interested in buying a 1996 Lefty Gibson '58 'burst historic reissue custom shop Les Paul Standard with historic reissue case black color. The seller does not have the certificate. Sent me photos and the serial number is 8 6247. Please let me know what the number would be a historic 1996 and 2006? Thanks!
StijnV Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 It could be both 1996 and 2006. An R8 from 2006 would however have CTS pots (no markings on them), and have Burstbucker 1 and 2 installed. An R8 from 1996 would have 57 classics installed and have markings on the pots. I hope this info helps.
ctkarslake Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Several things: Do the fretboard inlays have sharp (2006) or rounded (1996) corners? Are the tuners installed in a "V" array (2006) or are they installed in a parallel "ll" array (1996)? (examine headstock from the back) Is the finish on the guitar top and pickup covers dulled/brushed looking (2006 VOS) or does it look like the top and hardware is/was gloss finish (1996)? A 1996 reissue would have a brown/pink interior case and a 2006 reissue would have a black case that says only "Gibson Custom". Hope this helps as well. If it's a '96, it probably has a killer top. If it's a 2006 it would have a plain top, no flame.
