Beautiful guitar! I'm sure I gotta have one. That was an superb post with great pics and a very professional write up and review. I'd forgotten all about these so I had to read it twice. I do hope they add a Trans Black or Ebony to the mix eventually. I'm looking forward to seeing one in the flesh but I have an idea I'd better look quick. [thumbup]

Got my greasy mitts on one of the sample Genesis cases today and thought I'd post a few pics. It has the same hardware and heft of the current Epi LP cases, but has a Genesis badge, an orange "velvety" interior, faux alligator tolex, and it's slightly longer to accomodate the elongated headstock. The Geni Reissue will fit in a regular LP case, but this one is just too cool for school, and street price is supposed to be the same - $89 USD.

It fits the vintage units real nice too:

Not sure how I feel about the blue, but the black seems like a perfect finish for this model.

They do look far better in person, so maybe the blue will be OK.

Glad to hear that Pete got to play one, now I'm not the only on on the forum. msp_thumbup.gif

Love those new Genesis (can't decide which colour I prefer), I would've prefered the case interior in a beautiful red rather than orange.

Just my 2c worth Brian.

Awesome review!

I gotta admit, I'm pretty excited about this. My 1980 Deluxe has been my main axe for the last couple of years, and I have had a helluva time trying to find another one. Even though I swore off buying new, I might have to spring for a new one when they arrive.

Brian those are some great shots of that reissue!

Sure looks sexy in the cherry red with the flame maple veneer!

True Guitar Porn! [thumbup]

You said this weighs in at about 8 lbs? And the originals you have are about 10lb + huh?

I'm guessing the body dimensions are the same, and if so, then the wood must not be near as dense

as the wood used in the original series Genesis.

How does the sound and feel compare to your old ones, unplugged and plugged in?

Nice guitar! I'll have to check the Genesis out in-person. Now....why not use that terrific headstock design on all models? Seems it's already on the Dot, Casino & Genesis. Very nicely done. The nut work looks to be an upgrade over the black plastic stuff on some of the models. For me, that's what a nut should look like. It's usually the first thing I have to change when I buy an Epiphone.

Hi all. I'm new to the forum so I hope I'm doing this right. lol. I just thought I'd drop in and say a few words about the new Epi Genesis re-issue. I just purchased one of the new Epi 335-Pros. (great guitar btw) I was just cruising the Epiphone site looking for some more detailed specs on the 335-Pro when I saw the old Epiphone Genesis "Some like it hot" ad flashing up on my screen. Man, I can't tell you how excited I am that Epiphone has decided to do a re-issue version of this guitar. My very first electric guitar was an ebony Epi Genesis Deluxe. I bought her at a little hole in the wall guitar shop in the back of Dixieland flea market in Waterford Michigan in 1990. Can't remeber the exact amount I paid for it but it wasn't much since I was too young to have a regular job. lol. I loved and adored this guitar and I was so heartbroken when I was forced to sell her, and most of my other gear, in order to make rent shortly after I graduated high school back in '95. #-o It wasn't until a few years ago when I saw one listed on ebay that my curiosity was piqued and I learned of the unique history of the Epi Genesis. I've been on the lookout for a vintage Genesis ever since then but it seems like every time I have a little bit of extra cash there's not one in original to playable condition to be found anywhere. ](*,) When I saw that Epiphone was coming out with the Wilshire re-issue that got me thinking that maybe one day Epiphone would do a re-issue of the Genesis but like all wishful ideas it kind of came and went and I more or less gave up on finding an older vintage Genesis. Fast forward to present I now have a beautiful Epi Es-335 Pro-vs that I love almost as much as my old Genesis. I really dig the alnico classic plus p'ups and the coil splits on the volume knobs. I'm really stoked that the Genesis re-issue features this improvement as I've learned that the tonal possibilities are nearly endless with coil taps on both p'ups and a 2vol/2-tone setup. Another improvement I've noticed over the older model Genesis is that the re-issue features a nice, thick neck heel. If memory serves the vintage Genesis had no such neck heel which made it vulnerable to breakage as I found out one evening when I accidentally dropped her on a carpeted floor and the neck snapped. All my guitars now wear strap locks so that's not an issue but a nice little extra bit of peace of mind.

Anyway, I was wondering a couple of things about the Genesis re-issue. First, how do the probucker p'ups on the Genesis RI compare to the alnico classic pro p'ups on the 335-pro? Do they use the same magnets maybe just wound a little hotter? Also I assume the AAA grade flame maple veneer they're using on the Genesis RI is solid wood and not some platic wrap like they use on the plus top LP's? I've come to develop strong preference for plain top guitars since I mainly buy imports and I've heard that the "flame maple" veneers used on most imports is not real wood and kills the tone of the instrument. I've had a couple of flame top import guitars but I doubt that it made much of a difference as I was playing mostly high gain, down tuned metal with EMG's in those days. The thing I loved the most about my old Genesis is that it sounded equally good played through a crystal clear clean amp as it did saturated with gain. The alnico classic pros on my 335-Pro handle moderate gain surprisingly well but they tend to mud up on saturated leads, very nice clean tones though. I'm thinking the Genesis RI might be just the ticket to fill in the tonal gaps left by the 335-Pro. Many thanks to Epiphone and those who worked to bring this great guitar back from the guitar graveyard.

My Epi Nighthawk Custom RI no doubt has this type of "flame top veneer" on it and the body itself has 5 pieces of mahogany! All I can say is the tone great. Don't get hung-up on hear-say try one then you'll know for sure.

Congratulations on your Nighthawk man. I really like the looks of those customs and the plus top LP's are gorgeous as well especially the desert burst. I really aught to stop into Guitar Center some time this week and do an A/B comarison between the plus top and plain top LP's just to see for myself if there is a difference in tone between the plain top and plus top LP's. Can't wait for the Genesis to hit the stores so I can play one.
