Out of Production

Recommended Posts

On the out of production page it seems like they have listed every production that is currently available. Are they making room for more models or are they simply going to let the current stock dry up? Any help?

Personally, I don't have any problem at all with these models being discontinued (with one proviso: I'm sorry to see that the left-handed G-400 and Dot have been axed. I hope that more left-handed models are introduced to bridge these gaps. I'm not left-handed, but I've played with plenty of people who are - and are frustrated at their lack of left-handed guitar options, compared to right-handed models).

Some of the models in that list have been around for eons. Any company has to keep its product line-up looking fresh and interesting. Perhaps Epi thinks that it has sold all the G-400 Customs and Firebird Studios for which a market exists? Besides, people who desperately crave a model like that may well be looking around for used guitars, anyway. There's probably a heck of a lot of G-400 Customs out there, given Epi has been selling them for the best part of a decade.

The Epi "core" models are, of course, still there - Sheratons, Casinos, etc. etc.

It will be interesting to see what Epi has planned to fill the gaps in its catalogue, now the dead wood has been cleared out.

It seems that fender is constantly revitalizing what they offer, so I' glad too see that epiphone is doing the same. Can't wait to see what new models are going to be released.

I can see them dropping certain models if they aren't selling. Just because guys drool all over stuff here Gibson are only concerned with sales and if people aren't stepping up and actually buying this stuff it makes good business sense to eliminate those models . If they don't sell it's time for a change. I mean really, how many Emily the strange SGS did they really sell? Time to get rid of stuff like that.

I do agree that they should focus on original Epi models. That would stop most of the annoying Epi/Gibby comparisons we get on here. Yes they are simliar yet so different.

BTW I own both.

IMHO, it doesn't make any difference what they discontinue. Everything is available on the used market, including the hard-to-find models. Those just require a bit more patience to wait for them to come-up.

surely a fine guitar...however:

1) not an epiphone

2) not readily available (special order)

3) the neck, like many more recent casinos I have seen, appears to be on the thick rather than thin side...looks can be deceiving, however

honestly, it looks great but doesn't really factor into this issue

glad I got mine

You sure are lucky to have that [sad]

I tried to get one and Ebay prices were "obscene". I wasn't ready to spend twice as much as it was worth. I almost bought a Peerless Songbird when Jerry had them in stock over a year ago but funds were low at the time.

Then I went for a Cherry Dot for a killer price from SamAsh and it is a great guitar. I can't beleive that they will not make them anymore. The Dot is not a Sheraton. They are different!!

"You sure are lucky to have that"

back when I was thinking about getting one, I would periodically look on MF and other sites...one day, the listings were gone, the reason being the guitar had been discontinued...epiphone customer service was able to tell me where the last few were shipped...I called a few places on the list, one being super-expensive southpaw, and ended up driving up to connecticut to grab one at daddy's junky music for $599

As I said ... "You sure are lucky to have that" ... Great story!
