RS1976 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hi ya'll i'm thinkin about swappin out the Duncan Designed pups from my BCRich Bich to.... Dimarzio EVO & PAF 498R & 500T FYI: i play electric with open tunings, and 50/50 clean dist. and when i do go distortion i keep the gains mondo hot. anybody? i'm looking for pros... cons... hitch hiking? thanks in advance
Riffster Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 The 498R & 500T set in my Explorer are pretty hot, they do tight overdrive and distortion well and rolling off the volume cleans them up a bit but I have to say they are not very warm. Very modern sound for sure. The best thing I did to tame the bite and add character was a Russian paper in oil capacitor.

The problem with paper in oil caps is that they are hygroscopic, and absorb moisture from the atmosphere.

Riffster Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 The problem with paper in oil caps is that they are hygroscopic, and absorb moisture from the atmosphere. Maybe, but not when they are encapsuled in aluminum, plus mine are NOS so if they've been around for decades and work just fine I think Iam safe. The Russian caps I bought are military specs, they will last a lifetime in a guitar. What are your current pickups lacking? That is the better question.

Searcy Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 i would like an explosive high output Pup. sustain for days.... that kinda thing! Correct me if I'm wrong but your Bich already has a preamp in it right? So it's already got lots of output. Have to looked as a good compressor pedal?

Have to looked as a good compressor pedal? actually, no. the lower end model Bich guitars do not have preamps. but i will look into the comp unit. Neal Moser has an awesome aftermarket site that has all kinds of hot rods for the import Bich guitars. the circuit board intrigues me, but he wants 250 for that. that's too rich for my blood.
