onewilyfool Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/msg/2803381351.html With standard J-45's going for around $1500 locally used....Is there something super special about the Rosewood version that would push the used price to $2500?????? Just wondering..... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/msg/2850089047.html Is it just me, or is this seller trying to sell a fake Gibson knowingly???? Well I have to give him Kudos for at least admitting it is fake, as most fake sellers don't....but isn't what he is doing illegal???? At least in the USA???? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/msg/2805243941.html Although this guy has now dropped his price by $400.....can you tell me what he has been smoking from 1969????
zombywoof Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Number 1: Don't have a clue why the J45 would command such a hefty price. Number 2: It looks to me like the guy with the Lester is pretty up front that it is a fake - his speel is that it is a great fake. Number 3: Maybe the seller is caught up in the Dylan/Harrison/Rock Opera J200 thing and is assigning a mystique to the guitar. But I have seen folks ask in that price range. Not sure if they sell it for that but it appears more than just the CL guy think that is a reasonable price. Me, I don't have a clue what the value would be.

"never played!" "Been hanging on the wall for 10 years!" Then they take it outside in the snow for photos.
MissouriPicker Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Wily, your points are valid. On the J45, mine is mahogany. Don't understand why rosewood is more in the case you mention. Whither a guitar is rosewood or mahogany or maple, vintage, old, new, etc. means very little me if it is a guitar I want. If my J45 had been rosewood and was just as playable and easy-on-the-ears, I'd have bought it.
pfox14 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I would never buy a guitar off CL without inspecting it first hand. Too many scams.
j45nick Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I would never buy a guitar off CL without inspecting it first hand. Too many scams. Agreed. I've bought two guitars off CL in the last year, but I inspected both of them, even though they required a lot of driving around the state.
retrorod Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 The only thing Clist is good for is connecting potential buyers. It is a way to contact and physically inspect and potentially strike a deal. I would quicker buy from Ebay sight unseen(more protection) than acquiring anything from Clist, without striking the deal in person. Rod
Gibson101 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I sold three guitars recently on SF CL, I got pretty fair prices, had to deal with a lot of weirdos!! The three guys I ended up selling to REALLY wanted the guitars and gave me enough info to Google them and make sure they weren't Craigslist killers. Still the whole deal was kind of stressful. I'll sell my J-45 for Rosewood for a measly $2000 if anyone is thinking about giving this guy $2500. While his price is high (maybe he is too) they are no longer making them like that. Now they are a little too blingy if you ask me.
