slimt Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 I bought me a D18 .. .. It is pretty Nice... Im not a fan of D18s at all.. but this one said , Take Me Home... 55 made of this Model... They got it very Close to the Original 1955 Year.. with the exception of the adjust. truss rod.. and does it have Bark,,,, I never had a 50s D18 with this much volume..
MissouriPicker Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Sweet guitar. Nothing wrong with a good Martin.
E-minor7 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I bought me a D18 .. .. It is pretty Nice... Im not a fan of D18s at all.. but this one said , Take Me Home... Aha, , , , it must be something special. I like the straight look, the top hue in that burgundy interior a great deal. Congs.on what have to be a surprise to you -
dchristo Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 It looks good, you think you could play us a tune ???
JuanCarlosVejar Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I Saw a video yesterday where Chris Martin said that they were only making 55 of those because he was turning 55 this year so only 55 were gonna be made. looks nice JC
slimt Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Play a Tune ?... Ill have to get to a better skill level first... I suck when it comes to playing for a audience... Ya... only 55 for now... until they decide to make more with another marketing name.. :-"
E-minor7 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 By the way never noticed they come with black bridge-pins opposed to the white on D-28's. Good detail from Nazareth, Pennsylvania.
slimt Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 By the way never noticed they come with black bridge-pins opposed to the white on D-28's. Good detail from Nazareth, Pennsylvania. The other thing they did was a upgrade to a Quited Mohagany back and sides... Non scalloped braces.. I went in with the intentions of buying a J185.. when the issue of How Much? was asked.. It was clear the J185 was staying at the store..
Del Nilppeznaf Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 She looks lovely, something about her natural beauty. Always wanted a Martin and you got me GAS'in
onewilyfool Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Nice guit. slim.....is this the one with the 1 3/4" nut width? I think D-18 IS the Marting guitar more so than the D-28.....one of their best!
EuroAussie Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Is this a 2012 D-18 ? The one with the reworked specs meaning forward shifted scalloped beacing, 1 3/4 nut, basically how the old D-18v was ? Im really keen to try one of these models, the D-18 has always been one of the few Martins Ive always quite liked.
jchabalk Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 as long as we're admitting things here... i've really been considering - and shopping around for - an OM. For the money i'm being drawn towards the santa cruz/collings camp. they're just a little more difficult to come by. The other problem is that i've always really loved those 42/45 appointments (mostly so i can pretend i'm neil young when i play for our cats). help me, i need help!!! EDIT: AND i'm being rude! when i first heard about that new config of D-18 i thought i would probably make an awesome guitar. yours looks like a total winner. I can't wait to try one out sometime.

Don't want to turn this into too much of a Martin discussion, but can you explain why you say you're NOT a fan of the D18. How'd you do pricewise?
retrorod Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Congrats on your purchase. nice looking D18. Would like to see the quilt back and sides....
Rambler Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Cant speak for OP but have found many of the breed to be harsh and edgey. Hard bass and spikey treble, lots of separation. Best case scenario, Norman Blake on Whiskey Before Breakfast. But that's lead with a back-up, not solo.
pfox14 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 by "M" word I thought you meany something else
slimt Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 BANISH HIM!!!! Nah... Im a Gibson Guy at heart ..and Ive owned many.. Too Many... Ive tried the D18V Models.. I wasnt very Impressed with those... as for D18s.. Dollar for dollar compared to a Gibson Acoustic on any Normal day.. I would prefer a Gibson.. But as I mentioned before in another thread.. Im finding alot of J45s and J185 , J200s not being very Clear in tone... They sound Muddy.. and theres No reason why anyone should have to pay more for a True Vintage to get that tone when the early 90s Guitars already had that Tone .. Something went south on the New ones..

My old D18 has superior balance and more volume than my J45, but the Gibson has a warmth that heals you when you play it. Two wonderfully different tools! Screw new.
