Anyone near Nashville going to the Amigo Nashville Guitar Show 2012 this weekend?

Me and my two sons might check it out. Its a 6 hour drive from St. Louis, but we've never been to one.

Not really going to buy, sell or trade. Just to look. Should be fun. Might be some celebrities there.

Anyone know more details about these kind of shows?

for fun at the show...

take an EMPTY late 60s/early 70s gibson case with you. make bets with your pals how many sharks pounce on you as you walk in the door.

play their game and talk up the guitar... but never open the case. then after you've made them wait 2 minutes (which is an eternity to these chaps) open up the case and point and laugh and give em a lemmon drop for being such a good sport.

just for fun.

Funny, but I don't have a late 60's/early 70's case.

Just curious. Having never been to a Guitar Show, if you go there with no intention to buy, sell or trade, is there a reason to even go? Do you get to play guitars? Do you meet any famous musicians? Are there bands performing? Any of those reasons would tempt me to go.

Just want to get a little more details before I drive 355 miles and spend the money on admission, food and gas.

Most of the sellers think its still the 90's and their prices are ridiculous and forget trading anything your better off at GC and we

all know that's mistake for trade-ins.

I still go sometimes to see some vintage stuff or if I need some tubes or parts.

I did buy my PRS at one in Chicago and meet a real nice guy from Blue Moon Music out of Arkansas.

I have seen a few local well know guys and yes you can play most anything

Personally if I were driving to Nashville I would hit the Gibson Store and go downtown and listen to some great music

355 miles, wow that's a hike for a show.

Thanks Mark. Been waiting for a response. I know 355 miles is a long drive. About 6 hours. The twins really want to go so it might be good to get them out of the house for a day.

The Amigo show in Chicago is about 10 minutes from my house in St Charles Il and I still have a hard time getting there the

admission was something like $12 and I spent about an hour or so.

Go have fun!! Got anything else too do this weekend

Sorry to tell you but I woud not drive down just for that, if you make it a weekend with other activities perhaps,

I have been to two guitar shows in Nashville and I wish I had the $10 and $7 I paid to get in back in my pocket,

I'm sorry to say this but I've never been too impressed with any guitar show I've attended.

Maybe one or two cool things but for the most part you have guys that wanna downplay anything unique you might have while raving about their mim strat modded to the max. lol

I've seen more sweet amps at these kind of shows than guitars I'd wanna buy.

I definitely wouldn't drive that amount of miles just for a guitar show.

Have fun though and be safe.

Well we made the trek. And I must say, as others have already said, I was a little disappointed, but not too much because I kinda knew what to expect. My friend who initiated the idea, but ended up not going with us (long story), told us exactly what to expect. I just wanted to see a show for the first time. I really wish it had been more of a "big manufacturer show off you current and future models" type of show, but for the most part it wasn't. I was more to me like a guitar flea market. There were some interesting guitars there and a few new design type vendors, but not enought for my liking.

We did see a few interesting guitars, like a rare Gibson 12 string Les Paul, although I had suspisions about it because the price was only $550 and the headstock had the Gibson logo but what looked like the Epiphone headstock. I also got to play an ED-1275 for the first time. The 12-string sounded sweet but a little out of tune, and the 6-string had some static, probably electronic issues.

My son got to play a Rickenbacker 4001 bass, but the dealer/owner was a jerk about it when he figured out he wasn't a serious buyer.

Overall it wasn't too bad but I probably wouldn't do it again. We did, however, go to see the Parthenon before we left, so it wasn't a total loss.

Yea, you would think a city like Nashville gets some killer guitar shows but nope.

From pictures I have seen Dallas, Orlando, Philly, Chicago are the way to go.

I took a picture of the Parthenon at Vanderbilt a few years ago. The light coming through the columns in the morning was amazing.

I entered the pic in the Chicago Tribune contest and won a $100.00.

Glad you enjoyed yourself, now you can avoid the guitar shows!

I think Nashville is a great town but most people from the North just drive through it on their way to Florida
