LarryUK Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I have one. Radial Tonebone. Aby switcher. It's either or both plus a line out for a tuner. Top of the range would be Lele. I like them because you can have clean and dirty together or two dirty plus bring a boost on one. There are some reviews on You tube.
Anthony_J Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 You need an A/B switch. No danger in running two amps at the same time. Hell, Eric Johnson uses three amps and Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys uses two (maybe three now). I never needed one so I couldn't tell you which ones are best. Some of the more knowledgable forum members will chime in.
duane v Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I use the Lehle 3 toGo.... I play at elevated volumes and this one doesn't pop when I switch amp..... And it's programmable
renegade6 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I a use Morley AB box. Footswitch for A or B and Footswitch for A or B
krock Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I use my zoom g7.1ut for that because its last in my chain. Ive heard good things about the tonebone but heard the morley can tone suck a lot. The lehle is also a good way to go.
Riffster Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I have a Morley ABY , works just fine for playing at home, I found it on craigslist brand new for $25. In addition Morley makes several models: The George Lynch Tripler, The ABC, The ABC with mixer so you can blend the level of each amp, The Quad Box,
LarryUK Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 That's exacly what two-channel amps are made for..... But what happens when you want both channels at once?
L5Larry Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 An ABY box can be run both ways, one guitar switched between two amps (or channels), or two guitars switched to one amp. I use one for a quick change of two guitars to one amp. Although I build my own switch boxes, they are just that, SWITCHES, and I have found the need to have volume matching capabilities. Here's a box I found while searching for a "matching" AB box. I'm not sure if this feature is is relevant to the two amp usage. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BEHRINGER-AB100-STOMP-BOX-FOOTSWITCH-/200709414541?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebb369e8d I have other gear by this manufacturer, and they put out a quality product at a reasonable price.
Lazerface Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I have been thinkin of doing the same thing, but also adding a 3rd bass amp that I can swith on or off independently with an octave down shift (digitech whammy or eh pog). I like fender cleans and marshall od, so an aby will be needed
Dub-T-123 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 The thing that you need to be concerned about with this is whether you're getting a true bypass switcher or one with buffered outputs. Something happens when you use a true bypass A/B switcher. I'm not really sure why exactly, but there's some kind of load that's put on your signal that can result in "toan suckage". A good A/B switcher (like the Lehles) will have a well designed buffer to compensate for this.
jdgm Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I a use Morley AB box. Footswitch for A or B and Footswitch for A or B Yes. Morley A/B/Y(both), I have one of those. Cheap, battery is only to power the LEDs, and it never let me down yet. Plus the switching is silent.
Jeff-7 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 On the other hand, you can't plug a bass guitar into a regular guitar amp. Since when.
Lazerface Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I hear ya, ludnuts By having a dedicated, switchable bass signal though i can queue it in and have a clean bass signal under a distorted guitar signal, and it would be free of any delay or talkbox riffs i wanted to play on top of it. Since i already own a bass amp, and am also solely responsible for my rock duos non drum sound it makes sense for me. Aby boxes really open up many sound capabilities and are worth looking in to
Rich W Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 If you want to save some dough, you can make your own. I like BYOC pedals, and most of them are not a difficult build. I don't have this one, but it seems like it would do the job nicely. http://www.buildyourownclone.com/ampselector.html
Californiaman Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I bought the Homebrew Electronics Bytchn Swytchen off Ebay. Got a screaming deal on it because I was patient and waited for the right deal. $60.00.
Riffster Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 So a Morley brand is only battery powered? Does it use a AC adapter? I didn't understand The Morley A/B/Y model is a passive circuit, it does not require either a battery or an AC adapter. However if you want the LED lights to work it has the option to insert a 9v battery, since it only powers the LEDs it'll last for a long time. You simply unscrew the back, plug the battery, put the pedal back together and you'll be set for a while. Other Morley models are buffered and require a battery/AC adapter regardless.
