JM2112 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 What do you use on your Gibsons to clean/polish the body and what oil to clean and condition the fretboard, particularly for the new maple fretboards?
lespaulj45 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I use the Gibson Reissue Restoration kit-cleaners,polish and a non abrasive metal cleaner-there is also a product named "flitz" that does a nice job on britework,if you have the plated PU covers. occasionally I use lemon oil on fretboard
Lungimsam Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 To be safe - anything made by Gibson. I am afraid of other manufacturers' stuff reacting badly with the Gibson finish. On a personal note, I don't clean my axe. I just condition the fretboard with the Gibson board conditioner.
Jeff-7 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Virtuoso cleaner/polish. Fret Doctor fretboard conditioner.
ChanMan Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 This on my Les Paul: This on most everything else:
MrNylon Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 On my SG body, I use the Gibson Pump Polish in the orange bottle. On the board, Dunlop.
rocketman Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Ppl think I'm crazy I bet, but for me Pledge furniture polish works on everything and has never caused a problem. I'm punk rock anyways, I sometimes use spit to shine! lol You'll be fine for most of your poly finished guitars but it'll eventually cause problems on nitro finishes. For the fretboard nothing beats Fret Doctor. Here are some amazing before and after pictures:

pfox14 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Virtuoso cleaner/polish. Fret Doctor fretboard conditioner. What he uses - great stuff
Mark Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Virtuoso cleaner/polish. Fret Doctor fretboard conditioner. I didn't believe the hype about the Virtuoso product but I did pick up a bottle and I will never use anything else again. I have an 86 Studio that I could not get some sweat residue off but the Virtuoso cleaned it pretty well
69tele Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Fender Meguairs Cleaning Kit on all my guitars, and others i've fixed for friends too
