Reilly81 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I have a 79-80 L6-S Silver Burst and have looked in a few other L6-S's. Most of the models have a smooth, semi translucent potting and a factory sticker, or marker, with the year of the pickup. For example my Silver Burst has a 1978 and 1979 stickers. My 1974 L6-S has a dense black potting and no markers, other than one has the infamous Pat No 2,737,842 on the cross piece underneath, and yes I know that number is to a tail piece. The other has that same cross piece buried under the black potting. The pups sound similar to each other from guitar to guitar but without wrecking the potting on the 74's the HB covers aren't coming off. Anyone with knowledge that the early models may have been potted differently?
