Cooperstowncook Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Just wanted to take a moment to remember this tragedy. The fire was 9 years ago today. It was an unbelievable story, and hard to believe it was that long ago.
57classic Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 A horrible tragedy indeed. Inspector and town officials got off scott free.
bonzoboy Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I remember that horrible fire,it even made the news all the way up here in the North Atlantic.Heads should have rolled over that but I guess once officials get so far up in the hierarchy they cover each other's butts, that is if they can't find some underling to take the fall whether in the wrong or most likely not.

Let me say right off that I'm not a fan of this band in any way. Look up the video on www.bestgore.com - you can tell the pyro effect would normally send a fountain of magnesium sparks twice as high as this club's ceiling was above the stage. The people responsible were the pyro guy and whichever club manager let him set off his retardedly overkill sparklers. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that the club locked some of the exits. That move right there really made the footage that little bit extra disturbing. I don't think the Fire Chief or town inspectors gave permits or licenses for the pyros behind that Darwin Award-winning show. I'd say it's on the band & redneck barstaff.

No argument that they're culpable but I think they were given permits. Inspections and approval of the foam used for sound insulation and the lack of fire sprinklers which should have been installed when the facility changed from a restaurant to a nightclub are on fire dept and inspectors.
brundaddy Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I bet you anything the nightclub guys were trying to be slick and fly under the radar with minimum everything at minimum cost, getting over on the FD in the process. If you watch the video you'd see how absurdly overkill the pyro was, and that the club had the exits F-ing sealed. Does allowing pyros on that tiny stage and locking the fire exits seem like the club was acting responsibly and in good faith to ensure the safety of its patrons?
57classic Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I said I agree with you but that doesn't mean they are the only ones at fault. This was a disaster on many levels. I live in the Boston area. I've seen the videos and saw all the news coverage at the time of the incident. The Derdarians seem like scum and morons as do the band and especially the guy with the pyrotechnics. That said, there was widespread outrage that none of the officials faced any charges. Smacks of cronyism at least and corruption and cover up more than likely.
