Enjoyed that clip, thanks.......especially the version of Eruption. He's still got it as a player.

Not sure about DLR, though. He looks like somebody who has escaped from a psychogeriatric unit.

Agreed, Eddie seems to be in fighting form. Dave, however, sounds like sh*t! Start of the tour? How's he gonna hit those notes in a month if he can't hit them now? Ouch!

Sounds like Diamond Dave didn't take care of his voice. If your going to sing in a working rock band you got to do some regular maintenance to your voice. Didn't think he would be the same old Dave from the 1980's but that's bad! Let's hope he get's better.

It's would still be cool to see them live...if the whole band was there. [thumbup]

I saw VH in Milwaukee, WI when they were touring / promoting the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album. Hands down, it was the worst concert I'd ever been to. All four of them had the flu, so they basically just stood there on stage and played their songs. And every other word out of Sammy's mouth was f* this, f* that...it was just a horrible experience.

As much as I like the idea of DLR being back in the band, I think I'll pass on going to see them again...I'd rather spend my money on concerts that I'll be sure to enjoy.

Thoroughly UN-impressed by that clip. Dave sounds like crap. Wolfgang needs to lose weight. Eddie needs a hair transplant. Won't be wasting my money on this tour.

Now how are they going to get the cash to pay for DLR Voice lesson, Eddies new hair and Wolfy going to weight watchers if you refuse to go?

Somehow I think they have enough money to do all of the above without my $150 (or whatever they are getting for tickets these days).

Thanks for posting; that was actually really good!

If you haven't watched past two minutes; please watch it 2:40 onwards!

Dave starts mentioning Jim Morrison (yes as in The Doors) and then does an impersonation of how Jim would sing Panama!! Very funny [biggrin] He then goes on to make fun of the lyrics and (his age) and says about the "compulsory" bit is coming up - about the bit between his legs :)

I love the way he is just having fun and by his actions and jokes realising he can't sing the lyrics with the same conviction as when he was a young man - so a bit of friendly take the piss humour at their expense is called for - and it works!!

DLR certainly is not the singer he once was, that is true. Singers' voices change: It's always interesting to hear the difference between a Led Zeppelin concert recorded in the very early '70s and the mid- late-'70s, when Plant sang all the high parts an octave lower.

But Matt if people wanted to hear Jim Morrison they could buy a video or DVD; its Diamond Dave knowing he can't sing so he makes a trip down "waste everyones time and pretend your still the same person who used to jump with Swords and could actually sing your own material"...

Oh come on Jocko old bean, he was being light hearted! If he was imitating Jim for real, then yes - buy the Doors DVD, but he was just mucking around. Their music is so many miles a part from The Doors', it is funny to imagine them singing each others songs!! [flapper]

So many people here like them (VH) I am restraining myself when I say they are just a fun party band to me, not great song writers, but just a fun band that cheer people up - cheers to those that love their stuff, we are all different.

It's alright. I mean, Alex (who played the best out of the 4 IMHO) looks like a skeleton. Ol' Wolfie looks like an overweight bubble gummer, DLR looks like what a certain teeny bopper is going to look like in 40 years, and Eddie is not far away from looking like George Costanza. I don't care for it too much. I love Van Halen (and Van Hagar!), but they're a shell of their former selves. Same goes for Aerosmith and KISS (but not Ace Frehley. He is still my best Space Ace! Anomaly is freakin' epic!). I wish bands could be more like Rush (keep moving forward, keep improving upon themselves---not living on their past glories, and tour and make records not for the cash, but for the adrenaline of making new music and performing live for different people in different places). DLR, Steven Tyler, and Gene Simmons are all has beens that continue to make cash off of glories like "1984", "Toys In The Attic", and "Alive!". They should take the advice of their former bandmates such as Anthony and Frehley, and take the lead of Gerrick, Pratt, and Lerxst (you diehards will know those nicknames!). Compare the new VH album and Sonic Boom to any of the Chickenfoot releases and Anomaly. Use your ears.

Cookieman, you make a good point. In all earnest, the actual BAND (excluding DLR) sounds decent, but DLR is ruining it. He's like Vince Neil and Ian Gillan. Skips lyrics, doesn't pitch right, doesn't push enough air, etc. And being a 'brown sound' nut, Edward's tone just ain't cuttin' it. Hasn't sounded great (in my ears that is. I'm sure many people along with EVH himself beg to differ. After all, tone is personal preference. I, along with many, would prefer the sound that he got with a Strat style guitar made of ash and one pickup ran thru a Superlead with an Echoplex, but maybe Ed likes the basswood Wolfgang guitars and the Soldanoish high gain machines and rack delays.) since the 80s. Didn't care for the Soldano tone he had on For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge either. And plus, as far as I'm concerned, NO MICHAEL ANTHONY=NO VAN HALEN. Oh, and a headset mic? Even Bono hasn't sunk that low (sorry if I offended any U2 fans). To quote Ace Frehley, "AWK!"
