JamGuy Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Here's one for ya... Discovered today that some ****** stole my college financial aid.... super classy that they first donated money to a children's foundation before buying pizza and $1300 worth of slutty dresses. I hope they bury you in one of them. Needless to say, I'm not impressed.

JamGuy Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 This about sums up what I'd like to see happen...
EVOL! Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Sorry, brother. Can you explain the situation? Did someone lift your debit card or steal the check? Inquiring minds want to know.
JamGuy Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Sorry, brother. Can you explain the situation? Did someone lift your debit card or steal the check? Inquiring minds want to know. our university student ID cards double as debit cards and are attached to our student billing accounts and financial aid awards... I didn't lose the card, but when I tried to use it it was declined so I checked my balance and it was cleaned out... all the purchases/charges were make to places in England, which is strange because I live in Oregon... that's the gist of it. I'm sure it will work out... obviously I wouldn't order a pizza from London here in Oregon... nor do I dress like a prostitute.
JamGuy Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 I am unsure what your other credits cards or back accounts are like but drain them now and move to a new account asap. As a victim of this crap also, the fool that got me got my information from the laptop that was stolen from the VA a few years ago. He got 10g's all I had and redirected my VA check to Mexico. I was able to track his last IP address which was in Manhattan NYC; I eventually got most of it back but it takes time. My thief also used my funds to open loads of websites to sell porn. I closed everyone of them. Sad thing is the FBI could careless if its under some magical number of money stolen. I feel for ya... Sorry Bro. Go send Flight after the scum. Yeah, I'd be more worried about the porn frankly than getting my money back... I'm in school working on my masters to be an elementary school teacher, kids and porn are a career ending combination for me. On the up-side, the lady at the credit card place sounded pretty optimistic that I'd be refunded but it makes me wonder what other info they have or how they got it... and how the hell it ended up in England?
pfox14 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Sorry, I don't understand how someone can steal you're financial aid. Can you explain a little bit better?
Riffster Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Sorry, I don't understand how someone can steal you're financial aid. Can you explain a little bit better? He has a card, at some point the card was been used by him, the magnetic strip info is recorded in the POS (point of service) terminal, thieves then sell that information stored on the terminal, the people that buy it have fake credit cards, another terminal is then used to load the fake credit card magnetic strip (just like when a gift card is loaded)with the stolen information but the new fake card is punched with a new name for which they have an id to show. The fake credit card balance is then used immediately and completely.

They had to cover all the fraudulent charges and reimburse for everything. Wouldn't that apply here as well?
Riffster Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Yes, it would. He knows that it's going to be OK but it is a hassle.
EVOL! Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Yes, it would. He knows that it's going to be OK but it is a hassle. That's the key word: hassle. These things can take weeks to get completely resolved and if this is one of your only sources of money it can make those weeks very crappy.

My student account is now overdrawn due to "international transaction charges" associated with the purchases... I can't register for classes next term because my student account is all frigged up and there's a hold on my account. Furthermore, I won't receive my financial aid for next term because my account has been closed, and if I open a new one, the aid will immediately cover the overdue amount I now owe the school... pretty sweet huh? In the big scheme of things I'm optimistic that it will all work out... but in the mean time, I'm broke as a joke, and as EVOL! mentioned, it's a royal pain in the arse. The fraudulent claims process has at least begun so that's a step in the right direction...

I don't think you understand your rights. You've gotten yourself in a mess and you're going to have to get yourself out of it.
