Californiaman Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Used to listen to them way back in the '70s. Here's something you might like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClGVcVlbsQI

dem00n Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 I only have their first record, i should get the other ones. Vinyl of course.
saturn Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 The only other thing I really remember hearing from them was a cover of "Summertime Blues". Sometime around the late 80s I remember seeing an old interview with Jimi Hendrix where he was really ragging on Blue Cheer. He apparently didn't think much of them.
dem00n Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Jim Morrison said they were "The single most powerful band I've ever seen." Rush considers them aninfluencee as well as other many famous bands. I think hendrix was mad that they were getting a lot of spotlight.
MrNylon Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Blue Cheer was a late 60's band that almost never had a bad show. This was 60's rock. http://youtu.be/xjRMLsF7N4g
Malchik Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Blue Cheer, along with bands like MC5 and The Stooges, really opened the door for seventies hard rock. It's a shame Dickie Peterson died. I would have really liked to have experienced them live.
tazzboy Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I wish I could say that I like their version Summertime Blues, but I don't.
Twiz Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 It's a bummer that a lot of folks only know them for 'Don't Fear The Reaper' because of the Will Ferrell cowbell sketch on Saturday Night Live (although, that was really funny). They're awesome musicians, and wrote some amazing songs for sure.
pfox14 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I have to admit that I really didn't know who Blue Cheer was until I watched "Metal Evolution". Guess I missed out until now.
grampa Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I saw them numerous times back in the late 60's, loud and raucous. Wherever they played you would find The Angels, bikers loved them.

Twiz Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Wasn't that Blue Oyster Cult? Doh! My bad. That was.
EVOL! Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I wish I could say that I like their version Summertime Blues, but I don't. :(
slavestate Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I love their relentlessness. Pure symbiotic progression. And super heavy.
Unionman Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 There was an article in Vintage Guitar about them: http://www.vintageguitar.com/2840/leigh-stephens/ A great band.
