If you are on Gibsons main page and you go to "Talk to Henry" it will take you to a different board. I registered a new account over there to see what's going on there.

Any one else post over there?

What I don't get is, why not just create an account here and say "Hey, it's me Henry, I'm here to talk to you guys and see what ideas and opinions you can give us"? He would have done way better that way, and it wouldn't have become the fiasco it became.

There had been some incredibly unkind comments about HenryJ that were, IMHO, totally uncalled for and so discourteous it might have gotten someone thrown out of one of our local saloons.

In fact, it seemed as the thing had been taken over by a few people who treated Henry as though he were a thing instead of a fellow living, breathing human being and fellow guitar player as well.

It definitely showed how some people apparently love to be bullies, especially if it's against someone who has a higher perceived status.

The Firebird X was the biggest target, and its rollout. But rather than questioning points of the guitar and why and how it was made and designed, it seemed the critical "I wanna guitar just like the guitar that was played by dear old Dad" side took over. Heck, here I'm likely the oldest regular on the forum and if my checking account allowed such, I'd be interested in looking at some of the new tech - just as I did back in the '70s with some of the first piezo AE guitars that I still own. It's as if some forgot that the ES175 was pretty revolutionary in its day instead of an "old fashioned jazz guitar."

So... I'd like to know what's going on at Gibbie-Epi that we started to have a window into... then the nasties apparently killed it, then the rosewood game overshadowed it.

Sad. I check in every three-four months and it seems there ain't much to see...

It's kind of lame that most people will waste their (maybe one in a lifetime) opportunity to voice their opinion on attacking what they don't like.

I think the problem wasn't so much whether the "X" was a good idea as a market offering, or whether a batch of pickers thought it was a good idea or something silly...

I think the problem was that the references to Henry and the rollout and rollout vid were overly personal and, frankly, scummy.

Actually in retrospect I'm reminded of the rollout of concept cars in the auto marketplace where HenryJ had a batch of experience.

Some of those cars had stuff that we use now, some had stuff we consider just silly as possible some 20 years later. Few actually had super "new" technology, but often used existing technological concepts in different ways. In short - basically the same as the "X" in guitardom.

I'll admit the "X" wasn't my thing, but if HJ offered me one to buck outa the chute and ride down 'stedda just modern rodeo's eight seconds, I think it would have been a wonderfully fun project.

But the personal nastiness that was exposed was very disappointing and, frankly, almost shocking.

Some of us here can recreationally argue politics (<grin> before the thread is shut down) and it has gotten at times pretty heated, but never, ever, have I seen the degree of deep personal nastiness expressed toward HenryJ on this forum even in the era of "Homz" vs "Neo."

I'll admit that the personal nastiness truly angered me about as much as anything else I've "heard" since I've been more or less considered an adult.

The guitar I could take or leave even if I had the cash. In fact ... <sigh> I don't know what I'd have done if Gibbie offered me a new 175 or an "X."

Dude. Everyone knew that the word Revolutionary was a marketing ploy. What did you expect? Gibson announces a revolutionary guitar thats exactly the same as all of their others? C'mon!

But J, the others were not rolled out without the CEO calling current owners of his products names.
