Duppy Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I know the Tremotone model was released a year after a the regular 66 reissue, was there any difference between the two other than the obvious vibrato?
jonnyg Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 You can see the spec for the non trem model here > http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Doublecut/Epiphone/1966-Wilshire/Specs.aspx and the trem model here > http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Doublecut/Epiphone/1966-Worn-Wilshire-Tremotone/Specs.aspx There doesn't seem to be any difference in spec (except for the trem of course) but there is a difference in price. In the UK the trem model is +£60.00 ($90.00 US approx) over the non trem. Although the specs say the trem model is available in three colours, I've only seen it in black.
jonnyg Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Available in two colours here... http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone_alternative_design_guitars.html Good prices as well, but after the three I saw at GAK a couple of weeks ago I wouldn't buy one unseen. The one I have is very good quality in its price range, or even above, but those were shocking. The wood looked to be very poor quality.
jonnyg Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 The three I saw at GAK were all non trem models so I'm not comparing differences between models. What I'm saying is that the three Wilshires they had on the wall are going to be hanging there for a very long time. You wouldn't have to know anything about guitars to see the poor quality of the timber. The neck on the faded model looked little better than firewood. Frankly, because the ones you've seen were good and the ones I saw were bad doesn't mean they're all bad or that they're all good. What it means is what I said previously. I wouldn't buy one unseen and I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy one unseen.
