Super357 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Hey everyone, I need a bit of help unfortunately. I sold my Gibson Les Paul Standard Premium Plus on Ebay. The guy who bought it is an obvious swindler. He is claiming it is a Standard, not a Premium Plus. Does anyone know how I could quickly tell them apart to settle this dispute? Are there any markings that would identify the guitar properly? I bought it from Musician's Friend, but they don't have records back that far. They are supposed to contact me if they pull up a history of the order. I also sent Gibson service an email with the serial number, pictures, etc. and I am waiting on that reply. I was hoping one of you guys on here could point me to something quick and dirty. Sincere thanks in advance for any help!! Regards, Paul
StijnV Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Nothing quick and dirty to be seen ! It's difficult to tell if it's a Lp standard or premium plus as the tops can be quite alike sometimes, therefore we prefer to call it figured top; but the serial number should give it away.

Look at my avatar ... see that LP? It is a beautiful 'Desert Burst' ... is the description on the Blue Tag. The A-Hole dealer I bought it from, on the store receipt, wrote Premium Plus. I really didn't care as the instrument was and still is BEAUTIFUL. THE Fact was, and still is .. she's a regular Standard with a gorgeous finish. When I called to confront the Authorized Gibson Dealer about this, he had no problem to taking the guitar back for full cash paid. This stumped me as I'd already become very attached to her. No regrets.
rct Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Not to argue with anyone from the company, but there may be letters penciled under one or the other pickup, LPPP or LPP or LPS or LPPT, something like that. Depends on the guitar I suppose, but you could look under there with little trouble. rct
pippy Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 As rct says sometimes there is a code in one of the p-up cavities. LPP = Les Paul 'Plus'; LPPP = 'Premium Plus'. Usually (AFAIK) in the bridge p-up like this; P.
