wildcat Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Hey guys, I picked up a 1993 Gibson 335 several weeks ago in near mint condition. This is my first Gibson and first exposure to their 57 pickups. I did a set-up on it as best as I could and then took in for a final look by a tech. The issue is the Gibson 57 bridge pickup. The tone is very thin kind of sharp and brittle. We raised the height of the pickup, but it still very thin sounding. The neck pickup is warm, clear and full sound, great for the jazz cords a real winner. Currently I have a Epiphone 335 with a Duncan JB in the bridge which seems to work well. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I heard that Gibson has a "57" plus pickup. Thanks
damian Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 What did the tech say ??? A 57+ is a 57 with a few extra wire turns......335s do well with two 57s...... I find 57s warm in the bridge of all guitars....So, I'm not really sure what's going on there.......... .......
