ParlourMan Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 * Disclaimer - No clips posted as yet, clips to follow. So a quick review for the K&K pure mini pickup system. I got one of these with the intention to install it in my SJ-200TV. The background is that I wanted a simple/clean pickup system, passive but very capable, after some searching it pointed to K&K via recommendations and hunting down soundclips. The install cost me 40Euro from my luthier who's based in France. I've had the guitar back a day or two now and finally got a chance to plug it in to my Marshall AS100-D acoustic amp this afternoon. First impressions are that I am very happy with this choice. The guitar sounds like a bigger version of itself plugged, they always say that though, so it's probably more accurate to say I find it a very natural sounding amplified tone. I can get that shimmery strumming, the percussive sounding strumming (not percussive as in banging the guitar), the highs are there and the bass is very strong, being passive the amp's volume settings are a little higher than usual but this is to be expected. I would say that to me it makes me feel like the pickup is responding very closely to the subtle responses from the guitar in my hands. Obviously I'll now invest in a pre-amp/DI box for those gigs where I don't take the amp, so that I have enough ooomph coming through for the PA. I guess that would be a different review given that the overall setup is different, so I can't comment on that as yet. To give a better picture of my usage, I play secondary/lead parts in a 2 acoustic guitar setup, I rarely use a pick and I wanted to be able to hear that subtle percussive stuff from strumming and the starts/stops to offset the other rhythm guitar, thus far I find it delivers what I want. Congradulations ! so did I with my Martin HD28 Obviously I'll now invest in a pre-amp/DI box for those gigs I bought K&K XLR preamp, it's more suitable to K&K mini, coz it's more impedence matched with K&K mini than other preamp/DIs (including Para DI).
