So ive been to many many gigs, all sorts of different music types but until a few years ago id watch these documentaries or gig footage of famous guitarists playing together coming on a special guests and stuff and id think, why am I never there for that.. Then the first one I went to like that was Clapton and Beck which was incredible, but then last year I went to see BB King at the Royal Albert Hall (my fave venue) and was hoping wed get someone special on, but no one was prepared for what happened. The first part of the gig was a bit strange, it was a bit like An Evening with BB King were he did alot of talking about his past and stuff and played a few numbers in between (but was cool). Then everything stopped and they brought out five chairs and we were all thinking whats going on,

THEN.

Slash, Ronnie Wood, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and Mick Hucknel walk on stage [omg] and the rest of the night was like one big long blues jam.. Just amazing.. I never thought id witness such an event and wont ever forget it (and will be suprised if I ever top that), we are talking four generations of great guitarists (and Mick Hucknel :P). But im sure theres many great stories out there especially in the US. So whats the best thing youve ever seen at a gig?

Also since ive had a 720p camera I now make a point of taking it to gigs cos the footage you get can be great if you are near the front.. So check this vid from that gig.. Derek really gives it some in this clip, he really is something else. :) (watch it full screen if you can)

Castle Donnington; The original Monsters of Rock. from 83 to 87; fantastic shows each and everyone...

You know what I totally missed Donnington, I always wanted to go but somehow I was always busy when it was on.. And the year I really wanted to go was when AC/DC amd Metallica played and I was actually out of the country.. Oh well.. :)

Sir Paul McCartney at Fenway Park in Boston 2010. Still rockin at 66 years young.

Yeah when I saw BB he was two weeks away from his 86th birthday..

To many to think of but AC/DC at the Manchester Apollo in 79 with Bon Scott was a goody. [thumbup] Def Leppard supporting before they made it big.

2009 AC-DC at Valle Hovin Oslo. Have seen AC-DC on several tours, but this night was really good. Saw Metallica for the first time with the Sick of the studio tour in 2007, that was great. Bruce Springsteen in 2008 was a great night, man that gig was long (3 Hours i think) Bob Dylan and ZZ-top at Roskilde festival Copenhagen in 1994 was great(weed summer [biggrin]) . These shows and some Norwegian act's like Turbonegro, Skambankt and Madrugada are my finest moment on a gig

I went to The Jeff Beck Group's show at The Fillmore East in June 1968, this was about 6 months before Zeppelin formed. Beck played just about everything that was on the Truth LP, which had not been released yet. It was the first show for the Jeff Beck group in America, and they blew a lot of minds during that tour. Rod Stewart was the vocalist, Ron Wood on bass guitar and Mike Waller on drums,

Sounds like a great show Ive seen a few like that the most recent was Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks it was supposed to be Warren doing a single acoustic show but Derek showed up and it turned into a two hour jam and more of a party than a concert. It was a small show with only about 200 people there so it was laid back and a great night.

Another one like that was about 30 years ago at a Willie Nelson concert it was during the Highwaymen Tour So Willie and Kris Kristofferson came out on stage early for a soundcheck. It was several hours early but I knew several guys working security on the show so we got in early and me and my future wife and about six other close friends were all sitting on a few blankets about 20 feet away. from the security fence. We clapped and cheered after a Willie song and he just chuckled before he and Kristofferson waived us over and we all set on the front of the stage for about a hour just listening to them sing songs talk and just enjoy the nice weather while we were all drinking beer, etc etc. It was great and after almost an hour the others showed up and they had to get more serious but they let us stay inside the security fence during the whole concert it was like front row tickets for a outdoor open seating concert. My wife and I still both have red bandannas that Willie had somebody bring out that he signed and then gave to us it's one of those shows I'll never forget.

I, unfortunately, do not remember many of the shows I have seen back in my mis-spent youth [blush]

But a couple that come to mind was the Ozzy Ultimate Sin Tour with Metallica opening up (Master of Puppets tour) in '86, 17th row for that. Maiden at Red Rocks for Powerslave. Most recently saw Rush for there Time machine tour. They played for over two hours including the entire "Moving Pictures" album in its entirety. It was really good, not sure if it was the best I ever saw, but it was damn good.

Nice.. Was Cliff Burton still with Metallica then? He was awesome.

Funny enough I also went and saw Rush when they played at the O2 London.. was a cool gig :)

OK, I wasn't going to say this for fear of being laughed off the forums, but screw it...

Just took my 11yo daughter to her first concert a couple weeks ago. Kelly Clarkson, and I have to say, that girl has a serious set of pipes. She was really very good. [blush]

WOW.. I love ACDC and have all their albums.. Bon was something else.. As much as Brian fits the bill, hes no Bon :)

That must have been just before he passed? I think his actual last gig was in Paris that year..

Gotta admit that basically since I hit 21 I haven't gone to a real "concert" unless I was paid...

There have been a lot of them, some good, some less good. Lots of styles from Flamenco to Classical, folkie to blues, rock, country and cowboy.

But...

The most memorable was the Johnny Cash concert back in the mid 1960s where I met Mother Maybelle Carter.

Can't tell you beans about the concert any more, but I can tell you I'll never forget a truly lovely lady and her big Gibson archtop who introduced me to the band, let me attempt to play on her super-heavy strings and introduced me to Johnny for an interview as a guitar player who knew Carter Family material...

Never.

I have been to several concerts that could fit into that category: 1. Rory Gallagher circa 1972-74 at the Thompson Student Centre.Memorial Uni.,St. John's,NL.This was an incredible concert to say the least,I was sitting 2nd row center and could see first the blur of his lightening fast fingers and the impossibly fast riffs with pinch harmonics and not one note or harmonic missed- to say he was a wizard would be a vast understatement. 2. Roy Buchannan and Pat Metheny double bill 1977-TSC.St. John's NL,there isn't much that can be said about this pairing except absolutely sublime.3.Howlin Wolf,TSC,the year before he died,my friends and I were front row center and when he started singing Sittin' On Top Of The World he looked down at us white young fellas with tears streaming down our faces, with benevolent amusement,I just knew he was touched that his music had reached out and touched us too. 4. SRV St. John's Memorial Stadium 2 months before his death.I was literally leaning against the stage and was close enough to touch his snakeskin boots, the advantage of this was that I could see first hand how his incredibley strong fingers bent the cable like strings that he used.I could also see every bead of sweat and every little change of his facial expressions. 5. Steve Earle Copperhead Road Tour,it wasn'tt hard to tell that Steve had enlisted the creme de la creme of Nashville musicians for this and the previous album as every song was faithful to the studio version. The only non-original song that he did was the Stones' Dead Flowers. 6. Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives,I've seen these guys twice and have their autographs on my '04 50th Ann. Strat and my '04 Tele. Marty is an incredible multi-instrumentalist and when he and Kenny Vaughn take part in a guitar duel-the sparks really fly-booth shows were acoustic and Marty and Kenny were using old and beautiful Martin D-28s.

Saw Elvin Bishop (did a 20 minute version of "Travelin' Shoes"), Lynyrd Skynyrd (did "Freebird" before it was released on album or single), and the Allman Brothers Band in an outdoor concert at the Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, NC in the early Summer of '73.

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado in June of 1991. We were just an upstart band on the bill, but the line-up was loaded down with everyone from James Taylor to Alison Krauss to Lyle Lovett. Thoursands of fans with a back drop of the Rocky Mountains. Amazing. [thumbup]

Ace Frehley, Rockin' the Rivers festival in Three Forks, MT, last August. Great show. Great band. Opened up with "Rocket Ride", did "Snowblind", transitioned into a few bars of "I Want You", and finally into "Rock Soldiers". Did an awesome version of "Love Gun" (sang by drummer Scott Coogan. Sounded more like Paul Stanley on Alive II than Paul Stanley now). Also did "Rip it Out" and "Cold Gin" with the famous "Black Diamond" outro as encores. Very cool. It was ecstasy.
