Buc McMaster Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Juan Carlos suggested I take a run at this tune. I'd never heard it before and, turns out, it's quite a nice song. I've never spent much time at all learning to fingerpick.....I've got this one three-finger pattern that I've never taken any further. Don't have much digit independence in my left hand for string selection. Anyway, BBG suggested we make a thread of the tune and everyone that wants to can post a video of their version of Steve Earle's Goodbye. I think that's a great idea - who's ridin' shotgun on this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-5vwbyZxLE
BigKahune Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 . You may not know what day it is . . . . . But you sure know how to communicate a song . . . . loved everything about it. . .
DanvillRob Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Good stuff, Buc..... personally I would have rather seen your two hands work, (they were cut off at the bottom), but a great job on the picking and singing. I envy your voice!
Spot Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Yeah, I agree,...I would have loved to see a fuller shot on the video and see your fingerpicking...
Buc McMaster Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 .....I would have rather seen your two hands work...... Yes sir......I agree. The vid did not appear that way when processing it. I fixed the crop and I think there's a better "hand" view now........ Thanks!!
DanvillRob Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Yes sir......I agree. The vid did not appear that way when processing it. I fixed the crop and I think there's a better "hand" view now........ Thanks!! Holy cow, Buc.... I listened to it again, but I hooked up the external speakers to my laptop....and WOW, that was nice! (also liked that I could watch you work....thanks!) You should try to video yourself through a mirror..... and then the guitar would be on the correct side! Again, thanks for posting, I really liked that.
duluthdan Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Nice ring on that 45. Nice song, excellent playing. Sunday morning voice sounded great. What strings?
Guth Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 That was very nice. For not spending much time learning how to fingerpick, that was some really nice picking as well. Nice performance to listen to while sipping my own morning coffee.
AnneS Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Possibly the most embarassing thing I've ever done, but-- I'll grab shotgun, Buc, if only to encourage the rest of 'em to accept the friendly offer/challenge! Great idea... Really enjoyed your take...nice job, sir. (Among many issues are an annoying click in the audio and some lags...sorry 'bout that. I never record w/ vid so I didn't troubleshoot--no doubt a web cam software thing.) I can't believe I did this...be gentle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKjUNm-tX1Y&feature=g-upl&context=G210cf82AUAAAAAAAAAA
JuanCarlosVejar Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Buc , WOW you did the song Justice ... and it really means alot . I really felt the emotion and I think you captured the spirit of the song just right . the J 45 was a the right tool for the job too. I can't thank you enough for doing a wonderful cover of this song . I think everyone will agree with me ! JC

JC
AnneS Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Anne , I'd like to see your version but it says the video is "private" . JC Thanks! I think it's available now...?
JuanCarlosVejar Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Anne , your version is just as nice as Buc's . now you gotta meet up and do one together lol :). thanks beautiful versions of a great song. Steve actually did a version with Emmylou Harris and Anne certainly reminded me of that version. thank you JC
BigKahune Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 . Anne - - really nice job on short notice. Buc - - thanks for reprocessing the video. That's a pair of aces . . . . anymore?
Buc McMaster Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Well alright!! Great job, Anne! And yes, JCV, harmony is a very cool thing. I miss singing with other voices a great deal. Participation is what makes this forum a great little community! I fully expect BBG will post a version........it was, afterall, his suggestion.............yes? Step up!! (someone asked about the strings: Pearse PB lights with the high E and B changed out to .013 and .017 respectively)
JuanCarlosVejar Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I'll try and post a recording of the audio off of my ipod ... it's no high quality and very low volume (unless you have headphones) so if someone can take the file and make it better quality let me know. JC
DanvillRob Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Dang! Anne, that was fantastic! (LOVED the coffee bit). Now I have to go hear Steve Earle do it, (I doubt I'll like his version better than either of these!) I agree with JC..... you two need to get together and do a duet.
JuanCarlosVejar Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 one more reason for Buc & Anne to meet up :D JC
jdd707 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 one more reason for Buc & Anne to meet up :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr2IY8q687I JC Love the tastful reso guitar doing the fills in this version. +1 on Buc's version and Anne's version.
ajay Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Really nice, both of you. Sweet tones. Thanks.
jt Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Both versions are superb! Thanks so much for sharing them with us. OK, I'm gonna have to try to work up an instrumental version.
