Gary Moore Tribute Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 This appears to be the first USA Rosewood Production model since the Raid http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/Les-Paul-Custom-Rosewood-Maduro.aspx Its priced at $5,738 and for that you can get either # Gloss with Gold 490R & 498T # VOS with Chrome 57 Classics This appears to be done to a similiar spec as the Classic Custom http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/Les-Paul-Classic-Custom.aspx Priced at $2,999 Theirs a Simliar Black model too in this series. So it looks like the price of USA Rosewood on a Gibson appears to be $2,737! tho im sure you get more goodies than that...
BigKahune Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 . That Maduro brown is really dark. Almost looks black. It appears that the rosewood they've used on that Maduro Custom has been darkened (maybe with stain), which to my eye looks okay. Call me old school - but IMO a black Custom should have an ebony fretboard. Same for the White and Silverburst Customs. And maybe a couple other colors. .
strat-o-steve Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 A rosewood fretboard and gold hardware isn't worth $1000 over the cost of the Classic Custom. I could understand a $100-$200 price difference between the two models. Other than that, I like what I see.
Rabs Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I prefer the VOS one but DAMNNNNnnnn thats expensive... So many Les Pauls, so little money
btoth76 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I prefer the VOS one but DAMNNNNnnnn thats expensive... So many Les Pauls, so little money Hello Rabs! Agree with You! That's a beauty! Excellent color, but very expensive for me too. Cheers... Bence
Rabs Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Did anyone notice this on the description "The guitar's two-piece carved maple top is joined to a one-piece mahogany body " Unusual no?
Malchik Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 The late 2011s and 2012s standard customs I've seen have all had maple boards, so I guess ebony really has ran out at the Gibson plant. I heard that they may be using some sort of Mexican ebony. Any grounds on that?
Jim_H Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 For that price, I'd just go for the Marc Bolan signature model.
DiamondJig Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I think the price is way too high. But the Classic is based on a studio body which is chambered and smaller/thinner than a LP body that is weight relieved. The body should also be a higher grade wood. The maple cap is also smaller/thinner on the studio. I still think it should have an ebony board.
Dan41 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 with this new gibsom custom with rosewood they open the door for the fake now they will just need to change the serial for 2012
JM2112 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 The late 2011s and 2012s standard customs I've seen have all had maple boards, so I guess ebony really has ran out at the Gibson plant. I heard that they may be using some sort of Mexican ebony. Any grounds on that? I believe the Central American wood you are referring to is katalox. It's a very dense wood and is very similar to ebony except the color of katalox is closer to rosewood.
Willmkent Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Custom has got to be ebony for me, that's the traditional selected for the fretboard!
LarryUK Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Not a custom without Ebony. They'll have to call it a Glibson.
