Lazerface Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 We all know rock and roll is dominated by male voices. What female fronted group do you think is the best? Mine is Heart, hands down!
duane v Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I played in a female fronted band for 7 years I like Pat Benetar
Lazerface Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Funny you say the mac, i prefer them in the pre-nicks/buckingham years, but to each their own i guess
Rabs Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Heart surely must be up there, but Stevie Niks was cool too.. Janis Joplin was pretty awesome too
Lazerface Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 So Big Brother and the Holding Company then?
EVOL! Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 So Big Brother and the Holding Company then? Yes, they were ace. In high school and college I was a big Throwing Muses fan. Their album University was an alt. rock classic.
charlie brown Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 This one! There's no one like Chrissie! CB
bonzoboy Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 The Bangles-Susanna Hoffs has the voice and face of an angel and she's a brilliant songwriter as well.
bonzoboy Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I forgot about The Cardigans with Nina Persson, she's just incredible so too is the girl on lead vocals on Sixpence None The Richer. Then there were The Stone Ponys with an as yet undiscovered Linda Ronstadt and Canada's own Poppy Family with Susan Jacks and of course Smith with their smash cover of Baby It's You by The Beatles.
Bender 4 Life Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Joan Jett and the Blackhearts! right on !! and Vixxen, Heart, i'll even go out on a limb and admit liking Holes' "Celebrity Skin". saw Vixxen open for Bad Co. , man, they rocked the ampitheater!! Their bassist was amazing!
pippy Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I don't suppose Joni Mitchell qualifies as a band, so... I've always liked 10,000 Maniacs. Natalie Merchant's voice isn't universally popular (by a long way!) but I love it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jORFcH5uAjM P.
Searcy Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I couldn't name just one but here's one of my tops. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEv1Ymcb6H0
Muse Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Guns and Roses I really thought I'd get a comment or two on that one. It was hard to choose, there really are a number of female artists I think are great. Some of those are: The Dixie Chicks (who can forget "Goodbye Earl"), The Black Eyed Peas (Fergie), Siouxsie and the Banshees, Fiona Apple, 10,000 Maniacs(Mary Ramsey), Pink, Spice Girls, Janis Joplin, Natalie Merchant, Alanis Morissette, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon....... Way too many to choose just one. Has anyone ever heard of Nina Hagen? German punk. She's unique for sure, one of the reasons I like her. ONE favorite? I have eclectic taste, I would have to say that depends on the mood I'm in at the time. By the way, all your choices were great! Oh, thanks Bender, someone got it!
Namvet Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Its hard to choose one because many were (and are) suburb vocalists
Cooperstowncook Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Not my favorite, but Garbage was a good band.
