lengle1981 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Just bought one brand new for £295, I think that's a steal. Was gonna go for the 355 but at £295 couldn't resist, it's in wine red, tried a white one last week but looked tacky. The £200 I saved is gonna go towards an epiphone custom SG or epiphone SG 1961 reissue, what u think I should go for, do love the new 1961 reissues, got a cherry g400 already so thinkin white or tv yellow?????
RaSTuS Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Congrats on the new Riviera, I hope you enjoy it, they're wonderful value for money, top of my list of Epis to buy, have fun, HNGD. I'd probably swing in favour of the '61.
poopcicle Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 congrats! Riviera in wine red on my list to get! Go for the Tv Yellow 61!!!!!
lengle1981 Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 I'll put pics up but not arrived yet, on order so could be a couple of weeks, I'm pretty excited, got a price match to a French site woodbrass.com who had it cheaper and they did it. As for the 61 SG, that's what I've been thinkin myself too, do love the cherry sg's but as I already have one I'm swaying towards the TV yellow one, they look fantastic I love em. Have always love the 3 pick up SG custom but I'll save that one for in the future, I'm on a bit of an SG fix these days but have been looking forward to getting a new semi. Used to have a dot, a casino and a supernova along with a Gibson SG and white tele but had a few mental years and sold all my gear, went through a dodgy phase but we all make mistakes ha!
Blueman335 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Great choice! I've got a wine red P-93 too. I also have a '61 SG Special, which I got because of the P-90's. I don't like the D shape necks Epi's started using lately. Wide but thin (fretboard to back). I don't like the feel. It's like too much wood was taken off. I wish it had a typical Epi SG neck, like my other G-400's. I'm going to sell mine. Which SG Custom are you thinking about? The antique yellow one, or the bright white one with a maestro vibrola? I have the latter and love it. Of course with an HHH guitar, there's not as much room for picking, and a middle HB doesn't have great tones; that PU sounds nothing like it would if it were in the bridge or neck. It doesn't line up under the srting nodes right, and there may be magnetic field issues with too many coils laying side-by-side. I put an HB-sized P-90 in the middle slot of my SG Custom.
lengle1981 Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Was thinking the antique yellow but really like the 61 reissue. Are u not a fan then of the 61 SG?
