Remember the old days?

AXE®

Recommended Posts

I joined just a few weeks before 'The Lounge' made it's first appearance. It was funny. People were asking questions like "Are we allowed to use the 'F' word here?" and so on. It took a while to sink in that we could openly discuss non-Gibson matters! Changed days, eh?

Does anyone else remember the snap Blackie posted of his guit-playing room?

[scared]

And Neo/Homz exchanges were always fun up to a point. Then things would get pretty nasty. From what I remember of them Neo would always bait Homz - in a civil enough fashion - to the point where Homz would lose his temper and just start being abusive. Neo would then just carry on baiting...and on and on until it was pulled/they were banned.

Others not missed are headed by JIDIMB.....

A former member I mentioned in another thread a few days ago is the guy whose input here I most sorely miss and that was Thermion!k. The sad part is his leaving here was (AFAIK) all down to some misunderstanding between various parties. Great shame.

And I saw Murph's name in a couple of areas these last few days. There's even a snap of him in one of them!

There was some arguments maybe but it was a much better forum for guitar information. I used to spend hours on here now a few minutes every couple days does it for me. I haven't seen a really interesting post in some time and I can only stand so much of teenage dumpster divers waxing poetic about old broken TV's and Duane's Twilight addiction!

But back in the old days wasn't there a lower age limit of 18 in place.

Hmmmmm.

Things could get very nasty here. Neo was not above name calling, and KSGstandard could be very nasty as well. Of course, so could Homz, but perhaps because I shared most of his views, I wasn't as affected. In my opinion, Neo and Homz both baited each other.

Oh, I certainly didn't mean to suggest that it was one-way traffic, heymisterk. Quite the opposite.

Neo was possibly more often the first to 'bait' as I recall but he would usually be 'smart' enough to wait for the other party to start the name-calling at which point he could then step in and claim some sort of moral 'Self-defence'. He knew which buttons to press to get a reaction and there was usually no shortage of takers!

Probably 'Honours Even' overall, as it were.

Remember that time Blackie posted that he got shot and we didn't hear from him for a couple of days? :)

LOL!

In that room of his he was probably just trying to work out which was the floor and which way was 'Up'...

Sorry but I respectfully disagree with you.

Back in those days nobody demoed their playing, and there were only a few players that had anything unique in terms of rigs and recording equipment..... All the good info I ever received back in the good ol days was on the Epi side. Every-time I peeked on the Gibby side it was one big fight with the same seven members..... Granted there was the Member of The Month thingy, but c'mon how would one pick someone for that amongst all the fighting, and if you weren't part of the good ol boy click, you would never be considered ...lol..... Certainly there were members like R9, Matt, Murph, and AXE that brought musical and hardware insight to the good ol days. But it wasn't enough to overshadow the daily wars between the Mods and the Members. All I ever saw on the Gibson side (back in the old days) was political post, religious and racial banter...... oh and the never ending argument over buckethead [thumbdn]....

Today, members are more inclined to post their works, and talk about their equipment without too much worry. And really the only poop-stirrers we still have around here for the most part are from the good ol days. And members that wouldn't had been given the time of day back in the ol days now are given a listen. This place is much better for new members to make themselves more comfortable, and the CS Team is very visible and making themselves available to address questions about Gibson Product.

Certainly this forum cant be everything to everyone, but what forum is???? And at the end of the day, does it really need to be that important??? When I think of the good ol days in terms of guitars, a guitar forum doesn't come to mind. But more the relationships I made while playing music with people, and my meager accomplishments that I thought the world of back in the good ol days.

That was deep man.

ya that's really unlike me [biggrin]

I'm up early to check the speed of the forum.... There have been complaints that at 3-5 AM this place comes to a crawl.... But on my side all is god-speed [thumbup]

I remember several time periods of the "old Days".

There were the real early days where I mostly remember all the fuss over LynyrdSkynyrd14's grammar/spelling and some epic flame wars involving that loose cannon called Cudamax. Remember the "fake Silverburst" thread? [scared]

Yeah, the Neo vs Homz stuff used to bore me for the most part. I liked them both, but got tired of those two going at it all the time. Of course, just like some of the stuff now, I couldn't help myself from reading through it all. #-o

Then a little while later came the Jesus Is Dead In My Basement and Holy Hand Grenade period. I know they didn't contribute much, if anything, to the guitar/music topics but for some reason those guys cracked me up. I remember one time when JIDIMB actually tried to start a guitar topic and AXE® was the first to respond with "Blow it out your ***!" [lol]

Does saturn still have "that" mustache?

lolz

It came off once, but as much teasing as I take over my "porn stache" everyone told me "grow it back, you look more weird without it" [blush]

Edit: oh BTW, did you notice that after all these years I finally figured out how to type "AXE®" [thumbup]

Agreed. I don't really miss it. Honestly, I don't believe a guitar forum - even if it's a "Lounge" - should be the place for vitriolic political diatribes. And Duane is right: I tend to focus more on posting clips of my playing as opposed to attacking my keyboard in response to something Neo said.

The Mick!

I still like the forum but i can understand why some of you don't, i also understand some of you still watch as guests (no names will be mentioned).

Everyone who took a chunk out of this place or put a piece back will always be remembered, i'm sure some of you guys 10-20 years down the road will remember this forum and all the internet faces you met.

In the end we're all bonded by one thing and that's music. Never forget that!
