Thunderchild Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Just got a new Guitar Center catalog and on their Platinum.com page, they're showing a Musicman Classic Stingray Bass with a "Roasted Maple" neck. The ad says "Fat, powerful tone with incredible snap and articulation meet the stunning beauty and smooth feel of the finished roasted maple neck." To me, the neck looks like it came off an old Fender. In the photo, it looks dirty & worn. Wondering if there is going to be the same response or outrage about it as there was with Gibson's baked maple on the Classic Custom?? What say ye? TC
Malchik Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Companies like Music Man and Rickenbacker have been using torrified maple for decades. In fact, it's one of Music Man's signature woods.
Willmkent Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I think I would like it a lot more if it was darker. Especially on the new classic customs. I went into a guitar center and saw 5 different customs all with different shades in the maple boards

When I bought mine at GC it and the other three on the wall all looked like rosewood, as did the four at the Sam Ash two blocks over. {Cincinnati, OH} TC

GuitarBuilder Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Charvel calls theirs "Carbonized". Gibson is a relative newcomer to this party.
